Guidelines for Storage Access storage needs

by deciding: 1.what needs to be

stored 2.where it needs to be

stored. 3. Analyze existing

storage to determine how it can be maximized.

Ex add shelf or hooks

Storage can be: open (visible/shelves) closed (hidden/behind doors or in drawers).

Storage can be built-in: which is attached to walls and can not be moved.

Use Adjustable shelves.

Modular storage(storage with different parts that can fit together in different ways).

Portable/ mobile storage can be moved. Ex. Rolling carts, shoe racks that can be moved

Common-use- storage is used by all/most members of the home. Linen closet, kitchen cabinets, armoire in living room

Items that are visible are easier to find.

Vertical storage= doors & walls

ex: hooks to hang mops, sports equipment, outdoor/lawn equipment.

Arranging items Arrange items according to

frequency –of- use. ( how often they are used)

Arrange commonly used items in locations that are within reach (accessible) to everyone.

Consider safety, put medicines, cleaning products & other poisons out of reach of children.

Label the containers and keep a list of what is where.
