Volunteer Training Agenda House Parties HowTo Because of you, our dedicated staff at UHPP’s Albany, Hudson and Troy health centers has helped thousands of local women, men and teens take charge of their reproductive health and live in healthy families and healthy communities. Now we know that one in five American women has turned to Planned Parenthood for care at some point in her life. What a tremendous legacy! You can help share your commitment to exceptional services and honest education with your friends and family during this important milestone year. Just throw a party, barbeque, happy hour, brunch or dinner to benefit Planned Parenthood – past, present and future! How do I do it? Get a group of people together and have a party! You’ll have fun, connect AND support UHPP. What kind of support? Your excitement will raise awareness, secure donations, get people involved, and share what is really happening to women’s reproductive rights – nationally AND locally. UHPP will provide the support you need to make sure your party is fun and successful. What does it look like? What kind of party do YOU like? It could be a potluck dinner party or large rockthehouse event, a wine and cheese gathering or a backyard BBQ. It can be a dance party or a tea and cookies party. That’s up to you. We only ask that you set aside time to share your Planned Parenthood story and ask for financial support. Charging a ticket price for the event is also a great, low pressure option. And we’re here to coach you! If you have more than 25 guests, UHPP will arrange for a representative to attend. Even if you have fewer guests, we’ll provide information for you to share. What do I need to do to host a party? The party’s expenses will be your inkind contribution to UHPP. Keep track of them and we’ll send you an inkind donation receipt and a gift for hosting. (What’s better than a party with a tax deduction?!) Pick a place – your house, backyard, restaurant, a park, or anyplace else. Just make sure there’s enough privacy for your guests to ask questions and share their thoughts. Provide drinks, plates, napkins, glasses, utensils, tables, chairs – and food, if it’s not a potluck. If it’s an outdoor party, have a rain plan. Name tags are great too! Pick a date and time and create an invitation list. Consider inviting likeminded friends, both old and new. They may be your age, younger, or older. They may be women, but don’t forget…many men support Planned Parenthood, too! Contact [email protected] or call (518) 5129028. She’ll send you an invitation for your party that you can mail and/or email after you add your event’s information, including how your guests can RSVP.

 Scheduling  and  Planning  Hints:

•   Send  out  your  invitations  at  least  3  weeks  in  advance.  It’s  even  better  if  you  also  call  people  to  invite  them.  Expect  to  invite  three  times  as  many  people  as  you’d  like  to  attend.    And,  even  if  someone  can’t  come,  your  contact  with  them  has  made  a  difference!

 •   Consider  using  event  invitation  sites,  such  as  evite.com,  Eventbrite.com  or  BrownPaperTicket.com.

 •   Let  Amber  know  where  your  event  will  be  and  how  many  people  are  planning  to  come.  She’ll

make  every  effort  to  have  a  representative  attend.  At  a  minimum,  she’ll  provide  information  about  UHPP  for  your  guests,  sign-‐‑up  sheets,  donation  forms,  photo  consent  forms  and  trivia  questions!

Day  of:  Ask  your  guests  to  sign  the  sign-‐‑in  sheet  so  we  can  stay  in  touch.  Provide  donation  forms,  information  about  UHPP  and  consent  forms  if  you  are  taking  photos.    Here  are  some  fun  things  you  can  do  with  your  guests:

•   Share  your  Planned  Parenthood  story.  •   Play  trivia  games  about  reproductive  health  like  “Fact  or  Crap.”  (We  can  provide  the  questions).  •   Share  fact  sheets  and  UHPP’s  calendar  of  events.    •   Let  your  guests  know  how  to  connect  with  UHPP  on  social  media.    •   Ask  for  donations  and  talk  about  UHPP’s  monthly  giving  club  Healthy  You.    •   Encourage  people  to  ask  questions  and  to  share  their  stories.      •   Ask  guests  if  they’d  would  be  willing  to  host  a  party  for  UHPP  with  their  friends.

Follow  up:  Please  let  Amber  know  how  your  party  went!  Please  send  all  donations,  forms  and  photos  to  [email protected].  We’ll  post  the  best  photos  to  UHPP’s  social  media  sites.  If  your  guests  have  any  questions  that  you  can’t  answer,  please  let  Amber  know  so  she  can  follow  up.  And  please  let  her  know  how  she  can  help  you  continue  to  build  the  connection  with  your  guests.    Want  to  help  another  way?  Consider  doing  on  online  fundraiser  to  benefit  the  services  Planned  Parenthood  provides  by  asking  family  and  friends  to  donate  for  your  birthday,  anniversary,  retirement,  or  just  for  your  cause!    Sites  like  Crowdrise,  First  Giving,  and  Causes  on  Facebook  are  just  a  few  sites  out  there.

Your  support  ensures  that  local  women,  men  and  teens    continue  to  get  the  critical  care  they  need,  no  matter  what.  THANK  YOU!
