UNDERSTANDING BUSINESSES AND THEIR BORROWING NEEDSLesson 1 – Business Types addresses the basic types of business operations to provide learners with a foundation to assess businesses.

Lesson 2 – Legal Structures discusses the basic forms and legal structures of business organizations.

Lesson 3 – Why Businesses Borrow reviews the six principal borrowing causes and suggests that some purposes for credit may fall outside of some institutions’ credit policy or guidelines.

EVALUATING THE COMPANY, ITS MANAGEMENT, AND ITS MARKETPLACELesson 4 – Industry/Business Life Cycle helps learners understand these cycles as it relates to credit risk.

Lesson 5 – Management Integrity, Competence, and Scope reviews the basic elements in assessing management risk.

Lesson 6 – The External, Competitive Marketplace identifies common competitive forces that shape an industry and the performance of businesses within industries.

FINANCIAL ANALYSISLesson 7 – Financial Statement Basics provides an introduction to the structure of small business financial statements including the balance sheet, the income statement and key accounts within each statement.

EVALUATING OWNER-OCCUPIED COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATELesson 10 – Owner-occupied Property Types and Uses explores the various types of commercial property and compares and contrasts owner occupied property with property held solely for investment purposes.

Lesson 11 – Cash Flow Generating Capacity of a Commercial Property examines the various revenues and expenses commonly generated by income-producing commercial properties.

Lesson 12 – Contribution to Successful Business Operations reviews the degree to which the real estate contributes to company success, by assessing the property’s value and the likelihood of loan repayment according to terms.
