The Cathedral has a tradition of visitorwelcome that dates back to monastictimes when offering hospitality was animportant part of life. Today, thattradition continues and we look forwardto offering a warm welcome and firstclass hospitality to your delegates.

The Cathedral’s history dates back to597AD when St Augustine, sent by PopeGregory the Great, became the firstArchbishop and established his seat(‘Cathedra’) in Canterbury. In 1170Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered

in the Cathedral and ever since, theCathedral has attracted thousands ofpilgrims. The Cathedral houses aRomanesque Crypt (11thcentury), a 12th centuryearly Gothic Quire and a 14th century Nave.Beautiful medieval stainedglass windows illustratemiracles and storiesassociated with St Thomas.
