The temple whose chedi and the ubosot on the west side of the compound is late 19th century Burmese, built during the Burmese occupation of Chiang Mai. The viharn is in the Lanna style and had served as the Royal Hall of Chao Kawilorot; the Sixth Chao Luang or monarchy of northern Thailand. Skillfully crafted and designed with attention to minute details by Prof. Ajarn Jullatat Kittibutr; a highly revered and an award-winning Thailand National Artist pertaining to contemporary architectural design in 2004 and also ASA award (Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage) who emphasizes the significance of harmonizing local culture and way of life with architecture, infusing the very unique and distinct elements and traits of northerners such as humility, warmth, friendliness and nature into the final masterpiece of architectural restoration known as Baan Saenfang which will serve as a monument of local pride for future Lanna generations. A mere casual acquaintance of Baan Saenfang will undoubtedly deluge one’s senses of the building’s unpretentious temperament.
