ABOUT ASIAN GEOGRAPHIC HOT SOUP CHALLENGE

Organised by Asian Geographic Magazines Pte Ltd, the Asian Geographic Hot Soup Challenge is an annual event that sets out to challenge kids across the island on their knowledge about Asia in subjects such as general knowledge, science, culture, history and geography.

In 2015, the annual Asian Geographic Hot Soup Challenge will be held on July 11, 2015. This event invites students from all aroundSingapore to come in teams of four to pit their knowledge of Asia against each other in a fun and competitive manner. At the end of the day, winning teams are awarded attractive prizes and, of course, the title of Champions of the Asian Geographic Hot Soup Challenge.

ASIAN Geographic is a bi-monthly multi-award winning magazine, which showcases the best that Asia has to offer. Not only beautiful and enticing with award-winning photography, we cover a mix of culture, current affairs, social issues and environmental concerns to encourage a positive understanding of issues faced in the region.

THE HISTORY OF ASIAN GEOGRAPHIC HOT SOUP CHALLENGE

Over the years, Asian Geographic Hot Soup Challenge has been receiving increased support from Sec-ondary Schools all over Singapore. We had the most number of teams in 2012; a whopping 80 mixed teams (of four students each), comprising more than 100 regional institutions, were quizzed on their knowledge of anything and everything Asia-related.

We have also been honoured to have Mr Vikram Nair, to give a speech on ‘Singapore - A Gateway to Asia’ at 2014’s installment. In 2013, Mr S R Nathan was specially invited to attend as Guest-of-Honour and spoke about the importance of the younger generation preserving Asian heritage and culture. In 2012, Michael Palmer, Speaker graced the occasion as Guest-of-Honour.

In 2015, the Asian Geographic Hot Soup Challenge will be back again with a fun-filled and exciting showdown! Students will pit against each other to clinch the Asian Geographic Hot Soup Challenge 2015 Champions title. Additionally, participants will get to meet and greet our distinguish Guest-of-Honour, listen to educational talks by geography experts and much more!

TALKS/SEMINARs BY EXPERTSEvery year, the Asian Geographic Hot Soup Challenge will invite geographic-related experts to give a talk during the event. These talks are to provide participants useful knowledge that is in line with their educational curriculum. Over the years, we have invited professors from renowned universities and societies.

The Costa Cruises/Asian Geographic Hot Soup Challenge 2014The Costa Cruises/Asian Geographic Hot Soup Challenge 2014, was held on July 19, 2014, at the Marina Barrage Courtyard Room. The competition brought together 38 teams from secondary schools and junior colleges around Singapore, eager to display their grasp of the Asian region and learn more fascinating revelations about this dynamic continent, as ASIAN Geographic and her sister publication, Asian Geographic THE READ, have so stunningly showcased for almost two decades.

The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour Mr Vikram Nair, Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC. In addition to speaking to the assembled students about the importance of our Asian legacy, Mr Nair joined in the fun by hosting one round of the competition.

The Raffles Institution team emerged champions, winning Costa Cruises trips, flight tickets to various destinations, and Collector’s Edition Box Sets of ASIAN Geographic and Asian Geographic THE READ magazines, among other prizes.
