The Lucky Day collection, located close to the new fiction shelves, is a browsing collection of high-demand titles for people visiting the library. Visitors will have the opportunity to avoid long wait periods for these titles.

HANDPRINT KID

Here’s another profile on a “handprint kids,” who added a handprint to a piece of art for the opening of the Chanhassen Library 10 years ago.

Nicole Fedie is 18 now, and her most vivid library memories are of summer reading, and our summer reading performers — Matt Dunn the Magician and Dave, Yo Yo champion. “My favorite book when I was little was ‘Because of Winn Dixie,’ by Kate Di Camillo, and right now I am reading ‘The Choice,’ by Nicholas Sparks.”

CHANHASSEN LIBRARY

Saturday, Aug. 10 is our big celebration of ten years in the new Chanhassen Library. Events feature The Roe Family Singers (11 a.m.), Llama Llama Red Pajama Storytime (10:15 a.m.) and the Senior Center Woodcarvers (1 p.m.).

Gardening help. Both the Chanhassen and Waconia libraries will host Master Gardener help Desks from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m every Saturday in July and August.

The Reptile and Amphibian Discovery Zoo will be at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 30.

Princess Storytime with Belle is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31. Jill Leone will present storytime in costume as “Belle” from Beauty and the Beast.

Building a Fairy Garden or Hobbit World at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25. Children will build a fairy garden or hobbit world using real plants and twigs and learn the craft of twisting and intertwining natural materials. Examples of a fairy home and a hobbit world will be on display. Presented by Twin Cities theater scenic designer Philip

Hoks. Funded by Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Registration requested.

Play and Learn at 10:30 a.m. to noon, Monday, Aug. 5. For ages birth and up. Children of all ages and those who care for them are invited to attend a play session that focuses on child and caregiver interaction. A goal is to identify and support family, friend and neighbor caregivers and provide them with additional resources and monetary incentives through the CAP Agency – Child Care Resource and Referral.

STORYTIMES

Family Storytimes are 10:30 a.m., Fridays at the Chaska Library; and 10:30 a.m., Wednesdays at the Chanhassen Library. For all ages, with a focus on children age 2 and up. Children, parents and their caregivers are invited to come and share 30 minutes of stories, music and movement that encourages the development of early literacy skills.

Lapsit Storytimes are 10:30 a.m. Thursdays at the Chanhassen Library. For children from birth to 18 months. Babies and their caregivers share quality time in a 20 minute session designed to encourage language development through sharing board books and movement activities followed by time for visiting and play.
