Benham Schoolhouse Inn, Benham, KY
The Southeast Kentucky Revitalization Project or SEKYRP
will offer six hospitality training institutes in Southeast
Kentucky between the fall of 2018 and spring of 2020. The
institutes will be hosted at restaurant/inns in the region where
trainees can stay onsite. Each institute will include a three-
day, 20-hour training in basic hospitality skills [see training
topics and exercises]. The trainings will be led by three
specialists in the field with two special guest speakers. In
order to better meet the needs of businesses in our region,
we will offer trainings for small groups [10 people max.] and
large groups [20 trainees max.]. The small institutes will offer
an opportunity to focus on site-specific or regional needs.
Both training models will allow workers to network with other
professionals and businesses from the region.
Goals
Create learning opportunities with site-specific skills
Train workers in soft skills and general employability
Train workers to be regional ambassadors
Train workers for informal and formal situations

is a three-year workforce development project
funded by the Appalachian Regional
Commission. Our project area includes Knox,
Bell, Harlan, Letcher and Perry County but we
welcome participants from across the Central
Appalachian region. SEKYRP aims to make
our employees more skilled, our communities
more livable, and our region more desirable for
outside investment. The project focuses on the
