Serian Hospital is nestled in a valley surrounded by Hills on a flat ground. It was
officially opened by the Tuan Yang Di Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Abang
Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng on the 14th
April,1977 at a cost of RM3.5
million.It is located in Serian District which is one of the three districts in
Samarahan Division. Serian Hospital is accessible by road which is 1.5 kilometers
from Serian town, 64 kilometers from the state capital, Kuching and about 55
kilometers from the Indonesian border near Tebedu.It occupies an area of
152,649 square meters ( 37.72 acres).It is a mix of old and new building.The
hospital expanded with the addition of new block such as the Pharmacy store,
Haemodialysis Unit,Male and Maternity wards, Ambulance Shed, the staff flats
and the Hospital Directors banglow.
Serian Hospital is a 84 bedded district hospital without Specialist Services and
serves a population of 90,000.The population comprises mainly are farmers,
businessmen and government servants.
The hospital has four wards namely Male Ward, Female Ward, Paediatric ward
and Maternity Ward.The hospital has no resident specialist and it provides
primary and basic secondary level care in patient services including outpatient
services, haemodialysis, visiting specialist clinic as well as clinical and non clinical
support services. It provides 24 hours emergency services.
Its patient are mostly from Serian,Simunjan and some from Siburan
District.Referral of patients from this hospital is to Hospital Umum
Sarawak.Referral to this hospital is mainly from the Klinik Kesihatan in
Serian,Simunjan as well as the private GP’s.
