NewsWellbeing Polytunnel is blooming marvellous!Thank you to everyone who has supported us in getting our polytunnel up and running!

The polytunnel was made possible thanks to generous grant funding from Santander. Once it was in situ, our gardening club - Lindsey’s Hearts and Spades, under the watchful eye of patient Keith, have made it into a beautiful oasis, with plants donated by the community.

Thanks to kit donated by Morrisons and Splashrooms, Keith has even constructed a hydroponics system!

Wellbeing Centre Manager Sarah Hodge said: “We are delighted with the success of the polytunnel! Our patients go in every day, watering, reporting and learning about hydroponics.

“They get so much pleasure from looking after the plants, and enjoy chatting together - it really does improve wellbeing of patients, staff and volunteers.

“It’s been such a success we’re now providing produce to be used in our kitchen for Lindsey’s Meet and Eat, and we’re even thinking of selling produce in the future!

The gardening club are looking for willing volunteers to support them, as well as donations of gardening tools. So if you can support in any way, please contact our team at [email protected] or phone Sarah Hodge on 01724 270835.

  • NewsRay walks 97 miles for friend Chas and Lindsey Lodge HospiceA Scarborough man took on a gruelling 97 mile walk over just six days to follow in the footsteps of British fell walker, guidebook author and illustrator Alfred Wainwright MBE, in a bid to raise funds for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Here Chas pays tribute in his own words to Ray and his amazing journey...

Ray Clarke is fundraising for Lindsey Lodge Hospice as a tribute to his long time friend Charles Dowie with whom he joined the Army as 15 year olds in 1967.

Ray and Chas were part of the ‘B’ intake – 67B – to the then Army Apprentices College Harrogate. Chas has Motor Neurone Disease and is a day care patient at Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Ray wanted a ‘grande finale’ to his lifetime hobby of long distance walking. So he planned an unusual walk – Wainwrights Lost Walk’ – a distance of 97 miles to be done over 6 days and also to raise funds for Chas’ favourite charity – Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Ray walked the 97 miles and ran the last 400m to honour Chas’ athletics career – he was Army 200m champion and 4x400m champion – a record that still stands today after 47 years.

Ray raised over £1500 for Lindsey Lodge Hospice

    Thank you Ray!
