FEBRUARY 2019

HOOK MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS

And who are the MAF Mobilizers? We, the Hooks,

are part of a group of men and women who seek

the Lord’s wisdom and direction in meeting

potential missionary pilots, mechanics, IT specialists,

teachers, etc… who desire to serve the Lord, usually

in our overseas operations. Our work starts in the

office, Monday through Friday, except when we are

on a road trip to personally meet with people. It is a

lengthy process (often 5 years or more) from the

time we have first contact with a pilot or mechanic

until they arrive to their overseas assignment. And,

just what does a MAF pilot family do once they arrive at their base of operation? Here is a firsthand glimpse from

Doug and Karin Allrich who serve in Indonesia:

As we fly people into and out of their isolated communities, provide

transportation for pastors and other church leaders to conferences

where they receive spiritual refreshment and make plans for the year

ahead, and respond to near-daily emergency radio calls to help med-

evac people out of the village due to illness, disease, or injury, we are

often witness to the day-to-day needs of these dear people.

One of the more challenging types of MAF flights to schedule, but

one of the most rewarding and helpful to the Church, is conference

flying. MAF flies pastors and church leaders from their home villages

to the designated conference village. The flights are short, but there

can be ten or more plane loads of attendees needing to travel by

MAF. In as short a time span to safely fly, we shuttle everyone to the

conference and several days later we deliver them back to their

home villages. The hosting village welcomes every plane load of

guests with traditional dancing and greetings.

On one particular flight Doug was called to the village of Lolat to fly a

baby and his parents out to Wamena for medical help. It seems the baby

was left unattended near the family’s cooking area in their home, and he

rolled into the open fire, becoming very badly burned. Things like these

are heartbreaking to see, but we’re also grateful we are here to respond

to these needs using the skills God has given us. We’re only able to do

our part each day because of the faithfulness of so many of YOU who

give to MAF’s ministry and pray for the missionaries on a regular basis.

Greetings to YOU...from the MAF Mobilizing--Recruiting office in Nampa, Idaho.

PRAYER NEEDS:

Pray for our MAF organization: Asking God’s blessing and guidance on our new president, David Holsten and the leadership team.

Pray for safety in our flights and maintenance operations worldwide; and our staff, both nationals and westerners.

Pray for the Hook family and our need to in-crease our prayer and financial support team, as some dear ones have gone on to be with the Lord in recent months.

Praising the Lord for John’s recovery from prostate cancer and treatments. To date he is doing well and able to resume full activity.

Pray for Tom’s health issues and healing journey; and employment once he is better.

Thank you for partnering with MAF and the Hooks in our

ministry through your prayers and financial support. We

are privileged to be part of God’s Great Commission, as

we mobilize and recruit new individuals and families who

are responding to God’s calling to missionary service.

of accident and violation free flying. The director of the Federal Aviation Agency in Boise came to MAF for this

presentation. On a personal note, we are requesting prayer for our son, Tom. For two months he has been

experiencing severe health issues in his digestive system. He has been to the ER, gastroenterology clinic, and doctor

offices...and has had several tests with no confirmed diagnosis to date. The pain has lessened, but it is still there. He

has not been able to go to work for a month and has no health insurance. Please pray for relief and healing.
