Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society The SCC chapter of the international Honors Society for two-year colleges – Phi Theta Kappa – is a student organization to which many Honors students belong. To become a Phi Theta Kappa member, students must be enrolled at SCC, have completed at least 12 units, and maintain a 3.5 GPA. The Honors Program at Sacramento City College is an opportunity for students who want an alternative approach to their general education and transfer requirements. With smaller class sizes and an emphasis on advanced critical thinking, writing, and research skills, the Honors Program is designed to engage students who want to challenge themselves academically.

Be Part of a Distinguished Group What makes Honors classes different? Most sections operate in a seminar format with smaller enrollments and more interaction between students and faculty. The Honors classroom is an environment where students and faculty work as a team in pursuit of academic success. You may learn as much from your fellow students as you do from your professor.

The Honors Program at SCC may not be for everyone and there are different ways to achieve success. But, if you want an edge in fulfilling your transfer and career goals, this is a great opportunity.

SCC Honors CoursesAll Honors courses are numbered from 480-489 in the SCC Catalogue. Current semester offerings are in the Schedule of Classes and listed on the SCC Honors Program website atwww.scc.losrios.edu/honors. Generally, the following courses are offered:

Honors Program EligibilityHonors courses are open to all students with the understanding that eligibility for ENGWR 300 is advised. Requirements for individual classes may vary. Successful completion of the Honors Program requires a minimum of 15 units of approved Honors coursework with a 3.2 GPA or better. Twelve of these units must be completed at SCC, and three units may be taken at American River College.

Honors FacultyLike all faculty at Sacramento City College, those who teach in the Honors Program are highly qualified instructors who place an emphasis on student success. These instructors are committed to working with students who want to learn more about a particular subject or prepare themselves for advanced study. Honors faculty have also received awards for their teaching and contributions to the college, have participated in study abroad programs, and bring a multitude of experiences into their classrooms to share with Honors students.

68-84% of SCC Honors students applying to UCLA are admitted

Additional courses, such as 400-level MATH, CHEM, and PHYS may also qualify for credit towards the Honors Program
