Hong Kong Work Visa Application Instruction

RMIT University engages with education partners in Hong Kong for partnered delivery of

coursework award programs and other activities, e.g. quality assurance, meetings with

partner staff and research. Currently these partnerships are with the School for Higher and

Professional Education and Hong Kong Arts Centre.

All employees except Hong Kong passport or Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card holders

are required to obtain a work visa prior to arriving in Hong Kong to undertake teaching

activities with our education partners.

It is every employee’s responsibility to ensure they are travelling with the appropriate visa

prior to entering Hong Kong. The following websites are useful for further information:

APPLICATION INSTRUCTION AND CHECKLIST

If you are an employee planning an approved teaching session with RMIT partners in Hong

Kong, you will need to complete all necessary forms and compile all documentation required

by the Immigration Department of Hong Kong. See below for the list of documents required.

The Hong Kong work visa is only in paper format, and may only be obtained in Hong Kong.

Therefore, please ensure that you commence working towards the visa application as soon

as confirmation of teaching is received, as you will need to allow sufficient lead time

(minimum 8 weeks) for receipt and processing of the visa in Hong Kong.

Please note that you cannot perform any teaching activities unless you have a valid visa.

5 ☐ Request support letter from Human Resources

Include in the request the following details: - Full name - HK Date of arrival -HK Date of departure -Teaching Dates *If you have been allocated more than one confirmed teaching visit, it is always advisable to submit these dates also. HR will email back the support letter within two days of receipt of your email. [Please note that HR has been advised that the HK Immigration Department requires the letters to state the employee’s current salary.]

8 ☐ Partner institution submits application and collects the visa from Immigration once issued (this process normally takes 6 weeks)

Partner institution will complete form 990B (sponsor form) and submit full application to HK Immigration. HK partner institution will send RMIT the HK work visa

9 ☐ Collect visa label from School manager (or delegate)

Ensure that you affix the visa label to a blank page (no other stamps should be present on the same page) in your passport before passing through Immigration at HK airport.
