    Font History

Lumos is a freeware font created by Sarah McFalls, inspired by the chapter title font in theUS version of the Harry Potter series. The name Lumos comes from a spell that lights upthe tip of a witch or wizards wand. The font was created sing Softy, a shareware fontprogram. The official font used in the Harry Potter books is called Ablefont, and wasdesigned by Marcus Burlile it can be purchased online for $39.00. In the Harry Potterbooks, the font is used in CAPS only, and the lowercase letters are simply smaller versionsof the capital letters.

Why Lumos? There are multiple different fonts used the Harry Potter series, and among the three mostrecognizable are the cover font (Harry P, designed by Phoenix Phonts, is a close duplicate),the chapter title font (Able/Lumos), and Hagrids handwriting. I decided to use Lumos inmy poster because it would have been impractical to use the cover font throughout theentire poster the cover font is chunky and meant to be used for a title or cover; therefore, using it throughout the poster would have looked messy. In addition, Lumos is more

recognizable as a Harry Potter font than Hagrids handwriting is.
