The Homestead Valley Community Council is a union of four historic homestead communities: Yucca Mesa, Flamingo Heights, Landers, and Johnson Valley. It acts as our voice to government on issues that affect us all. HVCC meets on the 3rd Monday of every month. The meeting place rotates among the four community centers. If you have any question or problem that should be brought before county, state or federal government, you are welcome to come to a meeting and tell about it. Or you can have your issue brought before the Council by a representative from your community. Next Meetings YUCCA MESA Jul 19 6:00 pm JOHNSON VALLEY Aug 16 3:00 pm Homestead Valley Supports the Troops The Homestead Valley Community Council has undertaken a project sponsoring a unit of the United States Marine Corps deployed from Twentynine Palms to Afghanistan. We are now accepting donations toward purchase and mailing of small items for individual personal use which are hard to find over there, as well as jerky, sunflower seeds and other snacks that won’t melt. Telephone cards, greeting cards and mailing envelopes will help keep contact with families. Personal notes are planned to be included, too. The unit we are sponsoring is Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. They operate video live feed to the boots on the ground. Of about 140 Marines and Sailors deployed, approx- imately 20 are women. They are hot, they are isolated, small comforts from home mean a lot. The four Homestead Communities are also issuing VIP passes to all upcoming events to the spouses and children of these troops. We want them to know how much they are appreciated. If you would like to make a contribution to HVCC for this effort, contact a Council member (see list at left) or log on to www.hvccsite.org and make an easy secure credit card donation through PayPal.
