Obituary

Frank James Maddox, Sr. was the only son born to the late Maud Lee (Wharton) Maddox and James Maddox, on April 27, 1929. He earned a reputation as a good-natured and hard-working young man who started working at the age of 12. He was baptized at Immaculate Conception Church at an early age and remained a dedicated and faithful member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Church of the Most Holy Trinity. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy (high school) in 1949 and then attended Boggs Academy in Keysville, GA, where he completed a course of study in automotive sciences. He began working at the Savannah River Plant in 1952, and was in the original group of employees hired. He married his soul mate, Mattie Josie Carroll on June 26, 1955. To this union, three children were born: Frank James Maddox, Jr., Christopher Anthony Maddox, Sr. and Lisa Maria Maddox.

Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to service to his family, community and the church. He served as an example and mentor to numerous youth by coaching various youth athletic teams. He was instrumental in helping with the establishment of the Carrie Mays Community Center (Savannah Place Community Center). He was responsible for numerous improvements within the neighborhood while serving as the chairman of the Turpin Hill Neighborhood Association. He faithfully served as a Eucharistic (communion) minister, as well as a volunteer to transport church members, for several years. He also delivered Meals on Wheels faithfully until the time of his illness. He was a vital member of the fundraising committee for Immaculate Conception. He served on the Booster Clubs for Immaculate Conception, Aquinas and T. W. Josey schools.
