Stephen George International was established in 2009. Our Sofia office serves as a centre for operating throughout Central and Eastern Europe and further afield.
Our team is highly experienced and offers a full architectural and multi-disciplinary service in a range of sectors including masterplanning, retail + mixed-use, residential, industrial + logistics and interiors.
The team also offers an advanced capability in the production of marketing material, computer visualisation and graphic design.

Michael joined Stephen George + Partners in 1979 as a year out student to complete his professional qualifications. After registering as an architect in 1980, he became an Associate in 1985 and a Partner in 1990. In 2010, Stephen George + Partners became an LLP and Michael became the Managing Partner focusing on strategic development and maintaining Stephen George + Partners’ forward looking philosophy. Now in his Senior Partner role he will use this experience and enthusiasm to help to develop SGP’s work in London and the South East.
During his time at Stephen George + Partners Michael has pioneered innovation in the design of industrial and distribution buildings, out of townretail space and offices. He was responsible for the introduction of computers into the office in theeighties and data management in the last decade. He is an active member of the AFMG (Architects Financial Management Group).

Ian YallopChairmanLeicester, UK
Ian joined Stephen George + Partners in 1993 and became first Chairman in 2018. Ian is responsible for developing a dynamic and practical strategy for Stephen George + Partners’ continuing development.
Whilst experienced in most sectors, Ian is primarily responsible for our commercial and masterplanning projects. Ian’s team have considerable experience in designing and delivering complex schemes ranging from small office buildings to large regional business parks and UK headquarters buildings. A large number of these schemes have involved complex brownfield sites with onerous physical, ecological and phasing constraints.
Developing innovative, deliverable strategies is a key element of Ian’s work, along with the co-ordination of the wider design team to ensure that projects meet the client’s budgetary and design aspirations, which is one of Ian’s key skills.

James NichollsManaging PartnerLeicester and London, UK
Having worked predominantly in the commercial sector for a number of other UK-based practices, James joined Stephen George + Partners in 1998 and, having established our Solihull office in 2002, is now responsible for teams in our Leicester and London offices. He became a Partner in 2010 and Managing Partner in 2018.
James’ experience includes the design and delivery of a number of complex distribution, commercial and retail schemes. His close liaison with clients and contractors has led to new opportunities for the practice including establishing feasibility, design and delivery work in other parts of Europe and further afield.
James is also the Partner responsible for overseas and UK business development for Stephen George + Partners.

Geoff has 35 years’ experience of commercial developments in the UK and abroad and heads our Leeds office.
His main expertise, within both private and public sectors, is in offices, workspace planning and existing buildings. Geoff is Stephen George + Partners’ key contact with our government clients where he has worked for over 20 years delivering rationalisation and smarter working programmes.
He enjoys working with clients, making presentations and collaborative working and has gained experience of planning enquiries and appeals, appearing as expert witness. He is a confident and knowledgeable communicator and uses these skills for the benefit of clients and their projects.

Marcus joined Stephen George + Partners in 1997 as an architectural assistant and has progressed through the business becoming a Partner in 2016.
Marcus is an experienced architect who leads a dedicated team of architects and technologists delivering numerous complex schemes with challenging physical, ecological and legal constraints. Marcus has over twenty years’ experience working in most commercial sectors with particular expertise in logistics and masterplanning. More recently, Marcus has been working internationally designing and masterplanning major logistics sites in Russia.
Marcus is the partner responsible forInformation Technology and also manages the Building Information Modelling implementation strategy for the practice.

John MorfeyPartnerLeicester, UK
John graduated from Sheffield University with a distinction in design in 1977. He joined Stephen George + Partners the following year, leaving briefly for a short spell as Team Leader at Dorset County Council.
John has worked on a wide variety of projects, including education, housing, commercial and public buildings, and is responsible for a committed team of architects and technicians. Several of his projects across the sectors have been the result of winning local and national design competitions, and many have gone on to win design awards.
John has a lifelong interest in sustainable architecture. He worked on the EU-sponsored project to design, build and monitor passive solar houses, instigated the practice’s Sustainability Steering Group and delivers an annual lecture on Sustainable Architecture at Loughborough University.

Justine ChamberlainFinance PartnerLeicester, UK
Justine joined Stephen George + Partners in 2005 as a Financial Controller and has progressed through the business becoming Finance Director in 2015 and more recently promoted as Finance Partner in 2018.
In addition to managing Stephen George + Partners’ accounts department, Justine’s responsibilities also include providing financial, commercial and strategic expertise at the highest level of the business.

Alexander DawDirector SGIBSofia, Bulgaria
Alexander has over 20 years’ experience in the industry across most sectors including commercial, retail and residential design. He has been operating internationally since 2003 with the majority of that experience in Central Eastern Europe (CEE).
In 2009 he established our Sofia office and he now manages a team of around 40 architects, technicians and graphic designers.
Alexander has succeeded in building up a dependable client base and one of the region’s largest international offices. He is currently focused on securing business expansion opportunities locally and in the CEE region.

Tihomir KazakovDirector SGIBSofia, Bulgaria
Tihomir was part of the merger in 2009 – after pre-qualifying a number of local practices Stephen George International settled on his firm at the time. Tihomir’s design skills are exceptional and as a successful, young, up-and-coming architect he has proven to be a solid and reliable partner and a cornerstone to our success locally.
Tihomir has worked on various projects in different sectors over the years, but predominantly he has been involved in the office and residential sectors. He is our specialist on local parameters and codes ofpractice and is a Co-Chairman of the Architects Union in Bulgaria. Tihomir is involved in the coordination of our Moscow projects and is jointly responsible for management and development of the Sofia office and also responsible for seeking and delivering opportunities locally and coordinating practice policy.
