Warranty:

Tuthill Pump Group warrants its products against defective material and workmanship for one year from date of shipment from its Alsip plant. This warranty does not include products damaged by wear, tampering, improper installation, or abuse. Nor does it cover consequential damages or other losses due to pump failure. Due to the unpredictable nature of the fluids process pumps encounter, pumps are not warranted for any specific life.

Orbis Drive Installation and Service Instructions

ORBISTM Technology enhanced drive solution for Tuthill D Series pumps offers an integrated brushless DC motor with closed-loop control allowing customers to precisely manage performance requirements. This combination provides a reduced package size, long life, reliability, and a performance range which satisfies a high variety of applications. D Series external gear pumps provide non-pulsing flow while the seal-less design provides a leak-free pumping solution.

Safety:

· Misuse of this product can result in injury and/or product damage. Do not operate outside the limits specified in this manual and the pump’s individual specification sheet.

· Do not run the pump dry. Running dry can damage the pump.

· Before installing or removing pump motor assembly from the system, ensure power is disconnected from the drive.

· Do not allow liquid into the pump drive. Consult Factory on applications which pump cold fluid in high ambient humidity environments. Condensation can occur and damage the motor.

· Operating beyond the limits specified on the Technical Specification can damage the pump and drive.

· Do not exceed 150 psig system pressure.

· The supply voltage should not exceed 30 VDC or damage to the motor controller may occur.

· In the event of a power failure, turn off the motor power supply. Failure to turn off the power may result in the motor suddenly starting up when the power comes back on, possibly causing personal injury or damage to equipment.

· Do not touch the motor while in operation or immediately after operation has ceased. The surface of the motor may be hot and may cause burn injuries.

· Do not modify any part of pump/motor assembly. Modification may weaken pressure-containing parts and create hazards to personnel. Use only factory-authorized replacement or repair parts.

· Do not allow fluid to freeze in pump. Pump damage may occur.

· For corrosive fluids compatibility with this product, please contact technical support.

Installation and Operation:

· Optimal life is achieved when pumping clean fluid. Dirty fluid or fluid with particulate will lead to increased component wear and reduce pump life.

· Tuthill Pumps are capable of self-priming, make sure the gears are “wetted” with pumping fluid.

· Filters - On the suction side a filter of 25 microns or less is desirable. If the system is closed loop recirculating, the filter may be placed on the discharge side. The smallest micron filter should be used without restricting flow or performance.

· When using a filter on the suction side, care should be taken to not restrict flow or cavitation and pump damage will occur.

· Pumps are tested with water and may have some residual water remaining in the pump.

· Pump Installation & Plumbing - Locate the pump as close and below the liquid source as possible. Suction and Discharge lines should be as large as the pump ports and as short as possible. If long suction runs are required, use larger tubing. Avoid any restrictions; valves, elbows or sharp turns whenever possible to avoid loss of flow or performance.

· Fitting Installation for Tapered Threads- Apply a paste-type thread sealant or PTFE tape (two wraps maximum) no more than 3 threads from the end of the fitting before assembling to pump ports. Tighten fittings no more than 5 total turns and no more than 2 turns beyond finger-tight, whichever is less. Take care not to damage or misalign the pump-head when installing the fittings. Hold the pump-head, not the motor, to resist the wrenching torque.

· Running in Reverse: The gear pumps are designed to operate in a clockwise rotation as you face the motor. Intermittent reverse rotation is acceptable. Continuous reverse rotation (counter-clockwise) may cause premature failure. Consult the factory if the primary pump rotation is counter clockwise.

Operation:

· The Orbis drive is a BLDC stator with an integrated motor controller. The stator is mounted over the pump’s internal 14 pole rotor. The internal rotor is driven by the changing electric field of the stator. The rotor turns the pump gears which generates the positive displacement of the system fluid. (or fluid flow)

· The Controller will control speed as follows.

· Four-Wire 0-5V Speed Control: When wired as a 0-5VDC control voltage setup an input 0-5VDC control signal determines motor RPM. At 0.2 Volts, motor RPM is set to 800 RPM. At 5 Volts, motor speed is set to 3600 RPM. At 0 Volts the motor stops.

· Two-Wire Supply Voltage Speed Control: When wired as a 2-wire hookup, RPM is proportional to the Supply Voltage. At 12.6 Volts motor RPM is set to 1100 RPM. At 24.4 Volts and above, motor is set to 3500 RPM.

· The motor is capable of 85 mNm of Torque at 3500 RPM. The motor controller has both a current limit and a max temperature limit. As the current limit is approached, the motor will slow down. If the temperature of the control board exceeds 85 C the pump will shut down. It will restart when temperature drops below 80 C.

· Unlike a magnetically coupled pump the Orbis drive will not decouple.
