SCHOOL NURSES’ CORNER

HOME ALONE

In today’s society it is more common than ever that children are home

alone after school while parents are at work.

Some basic information that parents need to teach their children in-

cludes:

1.How to reach you or another adult

2.How to dial 911

3.Simple first aid skills

4.Basic safety rules, like not opening the door to strangers and

what to do if the smoke alarm sounds

Important information that should be posted by the telephone includes:

1.Parents’ work place names, home phone, and cell phone numbers

2.Another adult’s phone or cell phone number

3.Home address

4.Doctor’s name

5.Poison Center phone number.

CLIMATE SURVEY

The Sioux City Community School District is launching a School Cli-

mate Survey on Tuesday, February 7! The survey seeks parent feed-

back academic programs, student support, parent engagement, school

operations and school leader accessibility. Our independent research

partner, K12 Insight, will administer the survey, which means responses

are completely confidential. No one at the district will be able to connect

respondents to their answers. Parents will receive an email invitation to

take the survey. Simply click the link to participate. Parents can also

access the survey at http://tiny.cc/SCCSParentSurvey-Web. The sur-

vey will be available in English and Spanish. The survey closes on Fri-

day, March 3, and once the results are compiled, we’ll share the find-

ings and our next steps.

Thank you for making your voice heard!
