A Waco institution dating back to 1930, George’s started out as Harry B’s, a drive-up known for their “�shbowl” beers. Harry Burmeister, a founding NoZe Brotherhood member, opened Harry B’s near Baylor University and was a “study hall” for students for years. In 1966 George Betros bought Harry B’s and changed the name to George’s (Yes, that is who George is). It was about this time when those “�shbowls” got their now famous name. While students referred to the beers as “Big Orange” as a code name, waitress Lucile Brown just shortened it to the much easier “Big O” and the legend was born! Fast forward to 1993 when local restaurateur Sammy Citrano was looking for a new challenge after establishing a loyal following at another famous local café and bought George’s. He purchased it with the goal in mind of keeping the traditions and character while making it into the premier restaurant and bar in town. Sammy then expanded the George’s brand to include the Big “O” Deck, �e George’s Banquet Hall, George’s Party Zone at Baylor Football Games and soon developed the #1 catering business in Waco. George’s has catered for the Waco Chamber, Texas Sports Hall of Fame events, Baylor Athletics, and even President George W. Bush and his family, friends, and sta�.

In 2010, Sammy opened George’s #2, a second location in the Westrock Centre to service the bustling West Waco Corridor. Sammy can’t take all the credit and he thanks Country artist Pat Green for penning the 1997 classic “George’s Bar” and instantly making George’s a Texas legend and must stop on I-35. Since then, people have not stopped coming as they “still go down to George’s and drink my beer” At George’s , we are very proud to o�er our customers an experience they deserve by giving them truly personal service, great food at an even better value and the coldest beer in Town!So whether you’re here for the famous Chicken Fried Steak and Crazy Wings or to relax with a cold Big “O”, we want to say thank you.
