We need to do two types of visualization. One, as if the intended changes have taken place. We need to imagine what we would do when we get up early in the morning – go for a walk or do yoga. And the second, enjoying the benefits of the intended change – visualizing that we are able to wear a dress one size less or having our impressive profile seen on a mirror and so on; The third one is continuous reinforcement . New Year and ahead

For many people, every New Year commences with resolution(s). The resolution that people make is definitely not for the New Year – it is for their own selves. And what does this mean? This means that each one of us, wants to change the course of our life. This implies that we want a change and we are not happy with what we are now. This process goes on and on and we keep on making resolutions, year after year.

My listening to others has shown that many of these resolutions are not sustained over a period of time and invariably the initial focus fizzles away. Come the next year and the resolution continues.

This is a typical example of the conflict between ‘what we want to be and what we are’. Incidentally it is stated that this conflict is one of the major reasons for stress and tension in life.

Now how do we deal with this? We need to be clear about our ‘intention’ - our intention for self improvement. Are we really serious about the change we want in ourselves? This is the key question we need to ask, if we really want to change. If there is seriousness in the ‘want’ for the change, then there has to be seriousness in materializing the change.

How do we materialize the change we want in ourselves? Intentions, seriousness, firmness of the resolve are extremely important. There are some techniques available for materializing the intended change.

The first one is clarity of the change we want in ourselves – can we write down one or two specific changes we want: say, getting up early in the morning or avoiding junk food or beginning to read/study to keep abreast in profession;

The next one is creative visualization. We need to do two types of visualization. One, as if the intended changes have taken place. We need to imagine what we would do when we get up early in the morning – go for a walk or do yoga. And the second, enjoying the benefits of the intended change – visualizing that we are able to wear a dress one size less or having our impressive profile seen on a mirror and so on;

The third one is continuous reinforcement. We need to constantly reassure ourselves that we are on the track every day. This requires allocating time for the said activity and following it up on a day to day basis. Feel the benefits that are accruing everyday to us based on the improvements we are making to ourselves.

As we all know change is the only permanent thing; but it depends on whether the changes use us (and we suffer) or we manage the change we want….let the New Year take us much ahead of our intentions…

One Paragraph That Explains Life! Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS due to infected blood he received during a heart sur-gery in 1983.. From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: "Why does GOD select you for such a bad disease"?

To this Arthur Ashe replied: "The world over, 50 million children start playing tennis, 5 million learn to play tennis, 500,000 learn professional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals, when I was holding a cup I never asked GOD 'Why me?'. And today in pain I should not be asking GOD 'Why me?' "

Reducing waste can often save you money. Washing your own cloth diapers is less costly than buying disposable or paying for a service. Bringing your own lunch from home in reusable containers saves you purchasing bags and buying lunches at school or work.
