Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
Netball Knockout! Congratulations to our Netball Knockout team who played with fire and tenacity
against Shell Cove Public School this week. The girls left nothing on the court and
although we did not come away with the win, it was wonderful to see the display of
sportsmanship and enjoyment. A big thank you to Miss Tegan Davies, who coached
the girls and Mrs Leah Rutledge for her incredible umpiring skills. This loss means we
now bow out of the NSW PSSA Netball Knockout, but I am sure all the girls gained a
wealth of knowledge and skill from this experience.
Wollongong North Staff Impact Awards Last night the Wollongong North Staff Impact awards were held at Figtree High
School. I was proud to sit in the audience and see three of our teachers
receive awards for their dedication to improving students outcomes. It was
also wonderful to see a handful of our choir students as members of the Figtree
Community of Schools Combined Choir group. A thank you must go to Miss Brittany
Sharpe, for her assistance with these students and her wonderful singing in the choir.
School Captains, Zali and Kaylen were also on hand to assist with the presentation
of the awards, you can see some of the photos in the coming pages of this
newsletter. These awards would not have been possible without our very own Miss
Emily Corcoran. Miss Corcoran was on the organising committee and played an
instrumental part in the professionalism of these awards. Thank you Miss Corcoran.
Education Week—TUESDAY next week! As you are aware, Education Week is next week and to celebrate the wonderful
things we do here at Figtree Heights we are opening our school and classrooms on
Tuesday. We will have a variety of performances on show and you will have the
opportunity to take a look inside the walls of our learning hubs. Whilst we have a
captive audience, we will also take some quick moments to note feedback from
our parents and community on the strengths of our school. This will assist in our
2018-2020 planning cycle and give everyone a voice to assist in creating our school
vision, heading into the future. We will even have a coffee van for parents and
loved ones. We look forward to seeing you there.
Kindergarten Students in 2018 We are currently taking enrolments for our 2018 Kindergarten class/es. In Week 4 of
this term, we will be conducting interviews for our out of area applicants, however,
to know how many spaces we have it is vital we finalise our in area students. If you
have a child starting Kindergarten next year, or you know of a local family with a
Kindergarten child please let the office know as soon as possible. Our Kindergarten
intake is the first piece of our 2018 classing puzzle and securing these numbers as
early as possible will assist with the 2018
classing structure. Thank you in advance.
Morris Gleitzman Visit Unfortunately, we were forced to postpone the visit from Australian author Morris
Gleitzman to our school. Personal reasons have meant that Mr Gleitzman will
re-schedule his visit to FHPS. Families that have paid for this visit will not be
reimbursed at this time, as we are expecting Mr Gleitzman to re-schedule soon. We
will endeavour to keep you updated on the progress of this visit.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Skye Hayward
Congratulations to Mrs Sue Osborne, Mrs Vanessa Modernel (Heyes) and
Miss Jessica Gilmore from Stage 2. These teachers have been nominated
for their outstanding dedication and passion towards delivering high quality teaching and having a large impact on student learning. W

Congratulations
On Saturday night, 24 June, 2017, Yolanda C of 5/6D and Calista S of 4/5P participated in “The
125th anniversary of BJP”. The 125-Year Spectacular featured 2000 members from all over
Australia, celebrating the history of Physie in Australia from 1892 - 2017.
Both girls we're lucky enough to not only to dance in an item that represented the future and
possibilities that girls may have access to as young ladies in Physie, they also danced
alongside with the Victorian zone dancers in a Waltz segment.
After weeks of practice and back to back 15 hour days on the Friday and Saturday leading up
to and including the performance, it is terrific to see the huge smiles on both faces at the end of
a fantastic, and very entertaining 125th Physie Spectacular.
Well done and congratulations.
