Hope everyone has enjoyed their summer. I know we had some really hot days but I guess that’s what summer is all about. I am looking forward to the cooler temperatures and the lovely fall colors with autumn approaching.

The Brat Stand and Bake Sale was another success. Thanks to all who helped out in some way or another. For those who are fair goers another year has also gone by. We had a lot of great weather so hopefully several of you were able to enjoy it. It’s always amazing to look at all the exhibits from youth on up to adults . It is also a great time to visit with a lot of people you don’t see all the time.

We start out October with our lesson on the 3rd in Shawano and on the 4th in Bonduel. The Shawano lesson will be at the Courthouse and not at Hillcrest as stated in our Year Book. October 11th is the Fall Learn-In with Waupaca County. Another great day of learning! See the separate brochure included in the Satellite.

Bake Sale at the Farmer’s Market

Once again we had a successful Bake Sale. We always get compliments on the variety of items we have for sale. I know it was a busy holiday weekend and of course the Shawano County Fair. But ladies, Thank You for all the baking you did. And thanks to those members who couldn’t find time to bake, the monetary donations were greatly appreciated also. We had four, six foot tables full of goodies. We took just a few items to the Safe Haven Domestic Abuse Center. Two loves of breads are frozen and we will have them at our Fall Meeting Pot Luck .

In Memory of Barbara Lund and Sarah Elertson -

November Lesson “Fun with Crafting”

An update from what was in our 2018 Year Book. There will be 2 classes offered. This crafting event will be held at the Shawano Civic Center on Main Street next to the post office on Nov. 7th at 5:30 pm. Doors to open at 5:00 pm.

You will pick one of them.

1. Making a “Memory Bracelet”

Marlene Bowan and JoAnn Fehrman will be your Instructors. Supplies for this will all be provided. You will be able to choose the color and shapes of your beads.

2. Making a “Garden Stone”

Helen Raddant will be the Instructor. For this class you will need to bring an ice cream pail, wooden spoon for stirring and rubber gloves for working with the material as you are forming it. There will be embellishments available and letters and numbers to imprint your stone with. If you have any embellishments of your own you can bring them. Your stone will still be wet when you take it home, it will be on cardboard for you to transfer it home. Additional drying time is needed. After it is completely dry in 2 to 3 days you can paint on it if you want. It will have to be sprayed with a sealer when you're finished with it. We will need reservations by Friday, October 26th, 2018 so that we can be assured we have enough supplies on hand. Any questions call Helen Raddant at 715-526-2919. Reservations can be sent to the Extension Office along with your payment. Cost of each class is $5.00.

Courthouse Reconstruction

The courthouse will once again be under construction this fall starting Oct. 26th we will not be able to use any of the rooms at the courthouse for meetings. We will be making alternative arrangements. Also, the UWEX offices will be on the schedule for updating. During this time you will be able to find us in Rooms A-B in the basement.

Bike the Barn Quilt

Saturday, September 29th, 2018

Some of us again will be helping with baking breads, working at Food Stations or at Memorial Park for registration, helping with breakfast and lunch or where ever we are needed.

I will be contacting Club Presidents shortly if we need help with Baking the Breads. Anyone wishing to help where needed should call me now — Helen Raddant (715-526-2919) . If I get enough volunteers I won’t have to make calls to clubs. This year they are adding a Barn Dance at the Koeller Farm in the Town of Richmond. On Friday night the 28th.

Kitchen Maids

Members of the Kitchen Maids Club of the Shawano County Association of Home and Community Education have recently been working on a project close to their hearts. They have been busy sewing

shawls for patients who are receiving treatments at the Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology Clinic located in the Theda Care Hospital/Clinic in Shawano. Staff members were extremely excited to receive the shawls which will be used to drape over the arms and shoulders of their patients during infusions. They are especially warm and comforting during those difficult times.

Ironically, our service project prepared us for the reality of what was to come for one of our very own members. Her young granddaughter was recently diagnosed with a severe form of childhood cancer and is also benefitting from a shawl and pillow made by member Patricia Arnold.

Members of the Kitchen Maids are planning to continue sewing these shawls and are looking to supply other clinics in the area with their beautiful shawls.

Don’t forget to log your hours on the enclosed calen-dars. If you mark down your time as you do it, all you will have to do is turn it in when June comes around!!

Red Barn Brat Stand

One of the shifts from the Red Barn Brat Stand at Charlies County Market. Carol Sybeldon, Micki Thelen,

Sandy Wendorff and Barbara Erb.

Thanks to all who helped during the 3 days. With our Members, VITA people and some Volunteers we had a successful time even though it was so HOT. Before next years Brat Stand we need to decide on what the working hours should be. Do we do three (3 hour shifts) or two (4 and1/2 hour shifts). This will be discussed at Fall Meeting. Three hour shifts would be: 8:30-11-30 11:30-2:30 2:30-5:30 Four and 1/2 hour shifts would be: 8:30-1:00 1:00-5:30 It seems having a person coming in from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. worked great. We plan on doing this shift again next year.
