Thirty First Sunday in Ordinary Time

Eucharistic Adoration on Thursdays Adorers Needed from 11:00 to Noon and Noon to 1:00 PM Eucharistic Adoration at North American Martyrs Oratory is every Thursday from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. We are in need of an adorer from 11:00 AM to noon, and from noon to 1:00 PM. Alternates will be called whenever someone is sick or otherwise unable to make their slot. We are always in need of alternates. If you would be interested, please call Sandy at the Plymouth office at 536-4700.

The Parish Office will be closed on Friday, November 9th in observance of Veteran’s Day. The office will be open on Monday, November 11th.

SAINTS ALIVE! This Tuesday’s weekly student meeting will focus on saints and how they affect our spiritual lives. We meet at 7:30 PM in the Reflection & Spiritual Care Center, across from Lamson Library, up the street from the shuttle bus stop. Refreshments served and friends are welcome! NEXT MONTHLY PRAYER SERVICE & SUPPER will be THIS Sunday at 6 PM at the Holy Trinity Parish rectory, a large white house with a porch, located behind Belknap Hall, at the corner of Langdon and Highland Streets. VETERANS DAY SERVICE: Friday, 11/9, at 11:45 AM at PSU’s Veterans Common. It is located on High St., next to Hyde Hall, across from the Hartman Union Building (HUB). The community is welcome to attend. DELIVERING THANKSGIVING BASKETS: Students interested in delivering baskets that PSU provides to the community on Monday, November 19, should contact Kathy Tardif at kmtardif@plymouth.edu by Friday, November 10. This event is organized by Catholic Campus Ministry and C3: Caring Campus Coalition with the support of the Phi Beta Upsilon alumni group and Chartwells dining services.

Holy Trinity Parish Center Update

The building walls are now up! The plan is to have the outer building in place before winter, leaving the interior to be finished throughout winter into early spring. We are hoping for the project to be complete in mid March. There are still interior walls and trusses for the new center being stored in the parking lot until they can be installed, so the parking lot will remain closed. Construction gates will stay closed until further notice. Please make use of the two parking lots that the University is allowing us to use on the two corners of High St., one block north from the church. You can also park on the right hand side of Langdon (the side where the church is), but you cannot park on the left hand side. You will be ticketed if you do. You can also park in the lot across from the church. Thank you for your patience! It won’t be long before we have an inviting, accessible building for the growth of the Catholic faith in the heart of central New Hampshire!

Eagle Scout Project Needs Your Help Parishioner Ben Parsons is working on an Eagle Scout

Project and he needs your help. He will be constructing three handicapped accessible picnic tables for the town of Warren, one for the school, one for the Town Common and one for the Historical Society.

He needs $350.00 to be able to build the tables. The weekend of November 17th and 18th, Ben will be holding a bake sale after every Mass in Plymouth and Bristol. He hopes that you will be able to buy some items at this bake sale to help him complete his project.

Day Away is a social program for adults with early stages of Alzheimer’s or related Dementia. This program provides their caregivers a much-needed respite and relief from constant care and responsibility every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For the participant, activities include games, crafts, sing along, bingo, local entertainment etc. Volunteers are needed from 8:30am-12:00pm or 11:30am-3:00pm. Plymouth Knights of Columbus Spaghetti Supper and Auction The Plymouth Knights of Columbus annual Spaghetti Dinner and Auction will be held on Saturday, November 17th at the Senior Center at 5:00 PM. Through the generous donations from our local communities, the Knights have raised several thousand dollars each year to be used locally to help out those who are less fortunate. Some of the items up for bid are: New Stihl electric grass trimmer, restaurant gift certificates,100 gallons of fuel from Dead River, oil changes, mirrors, a Lowes gift card, fuel gift card, coin sets, real maple syrup, a Christmas tree, Dunkin Donuts gift cards, haircuts and much more.

Beware of Phone Scams Seventy five percent of all consumer fraud starts with a phone call. Older adults are now the target. Make sure you know exactly who is on the other end of the line. Top 5 Red Flags of a Phone Scam 1) They ask for your credit card, bank numbers or Social Security number. 2) The caller is aggressive and/or pressures you to act quickly. 3) You are the recipient of something that sounds “too good to be true”. 4) You are asked to pay a nominal fee for shipping and handling, etc. 5) The caller says you have been “specially selected” for an offer. If you have a question about a phone scam, call the AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline at 877-908-3360 or visit www.aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork. As Voting Day approaches, be careful of scammers posing as volunteers to collect donations for their representative. Consumers should contact the FTC at 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357) if they believe they have been victimized by a voting scam.

Message of the Week

"You are not far from the kingdom of God." What does it mean to be close to God's kingdom? In today's Gospel, Jesus is in a dialogue with teachers of the law. They know well the Law of Moses, with its complex codes, expectations, and punishments. What will Jesus say?

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength ... You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus effortlessly distills all the books of law into two commands. The simplicity of the Gospel message doesn't mean it's easy to follow. Far from it! The simplicity of the Gospel indicates its totality. Anything that requires the passions of our heart, the choice of our soul, the reason in our mind, or the strength of our body -- all of this ought to be animated by love. As you can imagine, that means pretty much everything! The love of God and love of neighbor is meant to flow into our entire lives. The Gospel can appear complicated because life is complicated. Not every outcast is easy to love. We lack the knowledge or compassion to heal everyone who suffers. Personal sacrifice is not always noticed or valued. In the face of the unknown, fear can be easier than faith. Life's circumstances can seem like ob-stacles to God's love, not opportunities. And yet Jesus' com-mand still stands. As you reflect this week, examine those areas where it's easy to love. Thank God for them! But take some time to consider the people and circumstances that challenge you. Ask God to show you what it means to love there. How is He inviting you to enlarge your heart, strengthen your soul, open your mind, and persevere in your strength? How is He inviting you to love?

WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED

Question: November is called the month of All Souls. More recently, it has been called the Commemoration of All the Faithful Depart-ed. Can you tell us more about this feast and the remembrances of this month?

Answer: November 2nd, the Commemoration of All the Faithful Depart-ed, dovetails with November 1st, the feast of All Saints. The saints, our models of Christian living, are one with God in heav-en. All the faithful departed are those who have died with hope and trust in a loving God who calls us to greater growth and development, even beyond death. This growth and development occurs in a state of being that we have traditionally called pur-gatory. While the Western Church has emphasized the cleansing and purifying nature of purgatory, the Eastern Orthodox Church has emphasized the growth and development aspect of it. Today, belief in purgatory allows one who has died in Christ to contin-ue growing and developing before meeting God face to face. God continually invites communion with these loved ones, but some feel the need to continue growing and developing before entering into full communion with God. These November feasts vividly remind us of the rich reality known as the communion of saints. This belief stresses the strong affirmation that the church is always one in Christ. Death does not sever any of the bonds that unite us in Christ. That is why it is a fitting practice to pray for the dead and to ask them to pray for us. Just as we do that for each other when we are alive, so, too, do we continue that bond and concern for each other even beyond death.
