Hisnag contains a total of three designated weeks of fasting - aside from the usual Wednesday and Friday fasts - so unlike Great Lent it is not a continuous period of such discipline. Bottom line: Our Hisnag, just as in the Western Church’s Advent, is a beautiful time to prepare, body and soul, for the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Focus on Scripture, being at church with your Christian family, prayer, worship, fasting and good works. During the Divine Liturgy, when the Parish Council members pass the Kissof Peace in Church, the response from the receiver should be “Orhnyal ehhaidnootyunn Krisdosee” (Blessed is the revelation of Christ). When yougive the Voghchooyn, please say “Krisdos e mech mer haydnetsav” (Christis revealed amongst us).

CONFESSION AND HOLY COMMUNION

Those faithful who feel spiritually prepared to receive our Lord in thesacrament of Holy Communion are asked to bring their pew books withthem to the General Confession and, together with the deacon, areasked to read the confession aloud. The essence to this sacrament lieswith the individual(s) offering his or her own confession through the priestto God. In addition to reading the text of the confession, each participantmust recall his or her own sins, truly seek God’s forgiveness, and make acommitment to the Lord to strive not to sin anymore. The Englishconfession may be found on page 48 in the burgundy Divine Liturgy bookand on page x in the blue Divine Liturgy book found in the pew racks. Weurge our parishioners to come forward for confession and HolyCommunion through the center aisle.

RESPONSE WHEN KISSING THE CROSS (during the procession)

The faithful says: Hee-shes-cheer yev zeez a-rra-chee-an-mah ka-rinnAs-doo-dzo (Remember me before the immortal Lamb of God.) The priestsays: Hee-shyal lee-cheer a-rra-chee an-mah ka-rinn As-doo-dzo (Youshall be remembered before the immortal Lamb of God.)

Your prayers are requested to have mercy on our countrymen in Artsakh, tostrengthen them in defense of their homeland, and to grant consolation to thesuffering and grieving. Your prayers are requested for the Rev. Fr. ShnorkSouin, Pastor of Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church, Providence. Yourprayers are also requested for Lucie Aghdamlian, Queenie Samourian, andDiran Zahigian; for the good health of all those who suffer from illness in theirown private way; and for those who mourn the loss of a loved one.

Thetheme is “In the Town of Bethlehem: Good News of Great Joy!”Taking thetime for this less than an hour program, held the first Wednesday of everymonth, may be just what you need to let your Christian faith guide youthrough your daily life.

THIRD ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE BRIGHTENING

We hope you again take part in this festive endeavor by donating one ormore lights in honor or in memory of family and friends during theChristmas season. Your $20 contribution for each light will help strengthenour Church as we continue to meet the needs of our parishioners and

provide events throughout the year for the enjoyment of the Armeniancommunity.

The second lighting will be today during Fellowship Hour and, asadditional lights are purchased, our tree will grow brighter each weekthroughout the Christmas season.

We are again making available a unique opportunity for an individual or afamily to place the angel on our Holy Trinity Christmas Tree on Sunday,December 17. This honor will be given to the first person to call the churchoffice and make a donation of $500 (25 lights).

All donations will be listed in a pamphlet distributed on December 17. Brochures have been mailed and copies are available in the Vestibule.

EREVAN CHORAL SOCIETY CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY CONCERT

The Erevan Choral Society Christmas Holiday Concert will be held onSunday, December 10, at 7:00 p.m., in the church sanctuary with ComposerKonstantin Petrossian conducting. Featured will be the Vocal Quartet fromthe Bostonians and the Arlington High School Madrigal Singers.

Mampre Kouzouian,visited Armenia at the invitation of His Holiness Karekin II, the Catholicosof All Armenians. While there, he taught pastoral care to seminary studentsand did some archival studies of church canons.
