CATHOLIC EDUCATION SERVICES – DIOCESE OF CAIRNS The Catholic Education Community – Diocese of Cairns, consists of twenty-nine schools including twenty primary schools, two Prep to Year 12 Colleges and seven secondary Colleges which includes a Flexible Learning College with campuses in Cairns [Manoora] and Cooktown. All schools, except the dual campus Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School, Thursday Island and Hammond Island, Weipa and Holy Spirit College, Cooktown campus, are within a two-hour drive of Cairns. These school communities are served and supported by Cairns Catholic Education Services (CES). CES is committed to building communities of learning that provide a safe, nurturing and academically challenging environment for all students. Leadership and strategic management of the system of schools is the responsibility of the Executive Director of Catholic Education. Through a team of professionals the Executive Director manages and facilitates a number of significant and particular delegations which include: • Support of the mission of the Church as delivered through Catholic education; • Support of schools by providing services that strengthen school capacity; • Provision of leadership and forward planning to develop organisational capability; • Distribution to schools of government allocated funds and their accountability; • Monitoring of quality of schools and compliance/accountability with requirements of governments, Church and

HOLY SPIRIT COLLEGE

Holy Spirit College is a registered Special Assistance School which currently has an enrolment for 52 young people in Manoora [Cairns] and 38 young people in Cooktown. The Cooktown campus includes a 32 bed residential unit.

The College is an initiative of the Diocese of Cairns and Catholic Education Services and offers individualised and flexible multiyear secondary education programs for young people disengaged from mainstream schooling. The college provides a variety of innovative teaching and learning practices that acknowledges young people’s complex education and social needs and empowers them to identify and pursue individual transition to adulthood, further education, employment and importantly a connection to the community. Staff at Holy Spirit College are multi-disciplinary in response to the diverse needs of young people and their families.

Young people who attend include indigenous and non-indigenous young people who are disengaged from mainstream education for a range of reasons and include:

• Those who have had contact with the juvenile justice system; • Those in the care of the Office of Children and Families; • Those with a history of trauma; • Those with a history of extended periods of unexplained absences; • Those who are highly mobile; • Those with mental illness or at risk of engaging in self-harming behaviours or substance abuse; • Those who have been excluded or repeatedly suspended from school; • Those who are homeless; • Those who are young parents; • Those with a generational history of early school leaving; • Those with a generational history of unemployment.

Underpinning all the work of the College are three operating principles of Relationships, Respect and Responsibility. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

COLLEGE LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE At this phase of its development, the College Leadership Team comprises all Senior Leadership roles: College Principal, Head of Campus - Cooktown, Head of Campus - Manoora, and the Business Manager. The Head of Campus - Manoora collaborates with fellow senior leaders in the strategic and operational leadership of all aspects of College life. The role requires an energetic and enthusiastic Senior Leader, with a commitment to Catholic Education and to the embedding of the College’s vision for learning and wellbeing throughout the important founding phase. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Head of Campus - Manoora will possess the skills and commitment to contribute positively to the Senior Leadership Team in taking the College forward on its exciting journey of establishment as a flexible and alternative Catholic learning community. This is a senior appointment to the Leadership Team of Holy Spirit College. The Head of Campus – Manoora is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and supports the College Principal in the leadership of the college. The Head of Campus also leads, develops and drives the execution of initiatives aligned to achieving the values, vision, mission and strategic objectives of Holy Spirit College at the Manoora Campus. Whilst the primary responsibilities of the position are articulated, it is expected that the incumbent will engage with the wider College Community and participate fully in events and activities, playing an ambassadorial role as a senior representative of Holy Spirit College. The College Principal has ultimate responsibility for the leadership and management of the College and its campuses. The Head of Campus aims to lessen the workload of the Principal allowing them to focus more directly on the educational, pastoral and strategic issues.

The Head of Campus is responsible for the management and leadership of the campus and any outreach services related to that campus as delegated by the Principal. He or she provides leadership and supervision to staff and the young people of the campus, working collaboratively with the Principal.

The Head of Campus is responsible for the day to day operation of the campus in keeping with the policies, procedures, guidelines and legislative requirements applying to the college campus.
