Year of the Family

“May Mary, who with Joseph, created a home for God’s own Son help you hear the word of God calling your families to en-

rich the Church of Syracuse and beyond and respond in faith, with humility and trust, as she did to God’s will for her.”

Bishop Cunningham’s pastoral letter, Enriching the Church.

As you celebrate the Nativity of the Lord during this special

Year of the Family, consider reciting the Prayer for the Family together. The prayer is available by visiting syracusediocese.org and clicking on YEAR OF THE FAMILY.

December 24 & 25, 2017 Fourth Sunday of Advent & Christmas page 4

Dear Friends, We are so glad that you are with us today and I wish you and yours blessings in abundance during these twelve days of Christmas and always. This is a busy time of the year and we are all looking for some peace and purpose in the midst of the busyness. Jesus invites us, “Come to me all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you.” This is a wonderful time to deepen, or begin again, our relationship with the God who loves us so much. If we are feeling hesitant to be a part of church regularly, Father Karl Rahner, a German theologian, gives us much to think about in saying, “Remember, God called us to be his friends, when all of our sins, faults and failings were known only to Him and discovery of our brokenness is only on our part, but God still wants us to be his friends.” Our parish of Holy Cross is intent on nourishing that friendship, intent on inviting you to be a part of our faith community and intent on supporting you in every way possible as we journey together with the Lord each day. If you are not a part of our community regularly, please join us. If you would like to speak to a priest or a deacon, or a member of this staff, just call ~ we’ll get right back to you. Life is challenging and we need each other and the Lord and then the way is a lot smoother! Merry Christmas,

Rev. John J. Kurgan

Pastor
