neering, Math, and Entre-
preneurship (ESTEME). Prior to Christmas
break, they will be joining us Nov. 5, 19 and

your 4th-8th grade children to avail themselves
of this enrichment program. For more infor-
mation please see the ESTEME website at

Halloween Trunk or Treat Thank You
Thank you to all the parents and grand par-
ents who came out and supported our Hal-
loween activities by opening their vehicles
and generously passing out candies. We are
blessed to have such great support at events
like this.
Virtue of the Month—Modesty
Congratulations to students who exemplified
the Virtue of Magnanimity this past month.
Students will be focusing on the Virtue of
Modesty this month. A virtue is the habit of
doing good, making life easy and delightful. A
virtuous person is free! The Christian virtues
give us freedom from being overpowered by
temptations or our vices. Everyone is born
with a capacity for virtue, but we need edu-
cation and practice to attain the freedom,
harmony, and balance of the virtuous, excel-
lent human being. Modesty falls under the
Cardinal Virtue of Temperance.
HRS 17th Annual Holiday Crafts &
Gifts Boutique and DeVine Pre-Show

Bringing the light back into the Season is the
theme of this year’s event. Friday’s DeVine
Pre-Show will include shopping, wine tasting
and hors d’oeuvres, and it runs from 6:00-
8:00pm at the Parish Community Center.
HRS alumnus Casey Van Note will be the
pianist providing a nice touch to the evening.
The cost to attend the DeVine Pre-Show is
$15, tickets are available for purchase in ad-
vance in the school office, or $20 on the day
of the event. The Boutique on Saturday, No-
vember 16 is free and will begin with the
Knights of Columbus serving breakfast with
Santa from 8:00-10:00 am. The Boutique
opens for shopping at 8:30 am and lasts until
2:00 pm, with over fifty local crafters and
vendors showcasing their one-of-a-kind
items such as local honey, hand-made jewel-
ry and rosaries, olive oil, glassware, wooden
toys, hand-made textiles and home-made spa
and body products. Please let any alumni that
we would love to have them participate in
the event. Young Ladies Institute (YLI) and
the Knights of Columbus as well as other
ministries will also be helping out in various
capacities. New this year is the participation
of more local businesses, Cracchiolo’s Mar-
ket & Catering will provide items for the
Wine-tasting, joined by Simas Family Vine-
yard and Bogle Vineyards. Fr. Paddy’s Irish
Public House is on board to provide deli-
cious lunch items of soup and sandwiches.
Dessert options will include items from
alumna Michelle Paschke’s Carousel’s Cob-
blers and Woodland’s new bakery, Zest
Cont. Holiday Crafts & Gifts

support to put on the event. For more information,

Activities in the Classrooms
3/4– Students discussed the importance of water
in farm lands. They learned about wells and irriga-
tion. Then Josh Lanneo from Durham Pump came
to class and explained how farmers irrigate crops,
as
well as how wells were dug in the 1800's versus
how they are dug now. They had many questions
and many ideas on how to conserve water.
1/2– Both first and second graders have been
working on new vocabulary lessons that are engag-
ing the students as they enjoy learning new words,
and words with multiple-meanings. Second graders
were reading about magnets, force and motion in
their Wonders Text Books. They were so interest-
ed, we decided to integrate these topics with our
Science lessons. First graders worked on doubles,
practiced making 10 on ten-frames, and worked on
their math facts using flash cards in math. Second
graders worked on place value using manipulatives
for tens and ones, and practiced using symbols for
greater than, less than and equal to, by using a math
dice game.
5/6– Students did a great
job in hosting last Friday’s bi
-lingual mass. They also
learned about the Dia de
los Muertos or Day of the
Dead and how people
celebrate it all around the
world. They participated
in an art activity coloring
skull and catrina puppets.
Both fifth and sixth are at
the endo of thier math
topics and are preparing
for their tests this week.
Keep up the great work
students!
TK/K-During Spirit Week the class met at the be-
ginning of each day in our Friendship Circle to dis-
cuss dress. We talked about what we were and/or
the colors and the types of designs and fabrics we
were wearing. Students looked great all week but
especially on Friday for Dress for Success! On Sci-
ence Friday, we set up some experiments with
sweet potatoes, carrot tops, and lima beans to
watch, measure, and record growth over time in
the students’ Science Journals. In Math, students are
sorting numbers 0-5 into groups of the same num-
ber. We explored October’s virtue of Magnanimity,
along with All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day. We
also are studying God’s rules and understanding
how rules help our lives in a positive way.
7/8– Students practiced solving equations using the
multiplication property of equality in Algebra. In
History, students have been working on their coun-
try research reports. They will be presenting this
coming Thursday. Students took 1st place in the
scarecrow competition, congratulations! Thank you
to all parents who provided support last week mak-
ing the Halloween celebration special.
Fleur de Lis Dinner & Auction
Planning Meeting
Our next Auction planning meeting will be Nov. 18
at 6:00 pm and we need you. This is our largest
fundraiser of the year and proceeds directly impact
tuition costs. Without this event, at a minimum, tui-
tion would increase by over $1,000/year per stu-
dent. Janet Ruggiero and Jeanne Locatelli have been
Co-chairing the event for the past few years and
they are both willing to help, mentor and support
others, but are not able to chair this year. Neither
one of them have students attending the school and
have been serving in this capacity out of the good-
ness of their hearts—thank you ladies! We need
parents to step up and help with this event especial-
ly in leadership capacities. All of the roles needed
can be split into co-chair positions so as no one per-
son has to take on a large burden. Please plan on
attending this very important Nov. 18 planning meet-
ing.
Library/ Maker Space Update
A huge thank you goes out to Kari and Deron
Cordero who have transformed our library into a
great area for all of us to use. Our next steps are to
add STEM maker space projects
and equipment, and recruit vol-
unteers to work in the area. If
you can help in either capacity,
please let us know in the office.
