Moving Toward Parish Consolidation Friendship In Christ On Ash Wednesday, you may recall, that I spoke of how the early Church seems to have used the notion of “friendship in Christ” as a way for imagining what Jesus had in mind for them and their purpose in the world. I invited everyone during Lent to think and pray about how our parish will continue to come to life by our willingness to strengthen these characteristic ways of being and becoming “friends in Christ” .
As in the 1st century the Risen Christ calls us, in this time and place —
• To enjoy each other’s company
• To strive to bring the best out of each other
• To share a commitment to a common good outside of ourselves
During this Lenten Season we’ve also learned that soon Our Lady of the Rosary Parish will be consolidated into our parish community. Parish leaders from both communities are now working on the details of this transition. We want to do all we can to insure that we effectively care for the pastoral needs of all as well as carefully attend to the administrative details for this to be successful. In this, we all have a part to play —
• Welcome, get to know, and enjoy our new members; and let them get to know you.
• Learn from the experience of others and listen for new ideas.
• Invest in the Catholic Church—our parish—making an important difference in North County.
“ H E I S N O T H E R E ! H E I S R I S E N ! ”
Happy and Blessed Easter! In the name of our Pastoral Leadership Team may the Season of Easter be rich in hope and the sureness of the love of God as we fulfill our calling to continue the mission of Christ on Earth.
Every once in a while I have to remind myself that the New Testament is just that, a “testament” that tells us about the difference that the Risen Christ made in the lives of those first believers and through them in their world—and through all ages down to our celebrations and community today. We would not be here together today if they had not been open to Jesus Christ changing their lives.
Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well,
but the certainty that something makes sense regardless of how it turns out.
Vaclav Havel, Poet, 1st President of the Czech Republic, 1993—2003
Eventually the sadness of an empty tomb and the real grief of loss in their lives would be overwhelmed by their certainty of the “real presence”. The early Church came to experience Jesus, the Risen Christ, as the fulfillment of God’s promise to be with us always. Fidelity on the part of God reinforced the compassion, courage, and creativity they would need to be a hope filled community.
Please join me today—and throughout the Easter Season—in thanking God for the “testament” of the faith of the early Church. Together let’s also cele-brate the faith of our community and all the ways we have and still yet will give our “testament” to the Risen Christ. More than the sureness of out-comes, knowing that God is with us is our hope—and helps us make sense of everything!

AN EASTER PRAYER Living God, the risen Christ is
on the move among us, but often we don’t recognize him. Like Mary Magdalene, we weep by the tomb, interpreting events in their worst possible light, until we hear the risen one call our name. Life the men walking to Emmaus, we think the bad guys have won, until we see Jesus alive in the breaking of the bread. Like the disciples on the beach, we go back to our old lives of fishing, while the risen Christ is on the beach making a fire for a breakfast we’re about to catch. Life Sau of Tarsus, we blindly surge forward doing our religious duty—even when it includes religious vio-lence—until an unrecognized voice arrests us on the road, and when we ask, “Who are you, Lord?” we hear the answer: “Jesus, the one you are persecuting. So now, when we face disappointment, discouragement, lack of faith or hope, or lace of conscience...we open ourselves this Easter morning to discover that You are already here, unrecognized. Today, may we once again hear our name, recognize Christ in the breaking of bread, cast our nets again, and know the good news that the God is risen indeed. Alleluia! Rohr Peace and Hope, S. ARCHDIOCESE OF ST. LOUIS
OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP
Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 Dear Faithful of the Archdiocese of St. Louis,
I offer to you my deepest greetings of joy and peace on the Solemnity of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ – Happy Easter!
Easter is to the Church year what Sunday is to each week – a highlight of rest and rejoicing. Its vivid sym-bols of fire, water and exultant song remind us that Christ has overcome sin and death. Because of that we know, in the words of Pope Francis, that when everything is said and done, we are infinitely loved by God.
Let us pray that the light of Christ will shine in our hearts this Easter, and reach out to others through us. We know that our Savior lives. Let us share with others the joy of knowing that they are loved by God!
I ask that you keep in mind that the collection for Regina Cleri, the residence for our retired priests, is to-day. You know how generously the retired priests served you, and how you counted on them. Now, in turn, they count on you, and are grateful for your generous support and prayers.
I pray these are days of blessing for you and your loved ones. Sincerely
yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson Archbishop of St. Louis
