Welcome back after the holiday break. Whatever you have been doing, we hope you have had an enjoyable time. Things are gradually returning to normal - dates are listed below. SUNDAY 9.30 MASS The 9.30am Sunday Mass will resume next Sunday 8th September. 6.45am & 8.30am WEEKDAY MASSES The 8.30am Mass on Fridays will resume on Friday 13 th September. The 6.45am (Mon-Thurs) Mass will resume on Monday 16 th September. FRIDAY ADORATION Our regular, extended period of Adoration (every Friday, 10.00 am – 6.00 pm) resumes this Friday, 6 th September. As usual, sign-up sheets will be on the table at the back of church, where you can volunteer to spend a little time in Adoration (slots last for half an hour). We especially encourage new people to come along and spend a little time in quiet prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. SUNDAY HOLY HOUR Our Sunday Holy Hour (5.00 - 5.45pm concluding with Benediction) will re-commence next Sunday, 8 th September. For all other regular, parish events, please keep an eye on the first column of page 2, overleaf. SUNDAY 9.30 MASS The 9.30am Sunday Mass will resume next Sunday 8th September.

6.45am & 8.30am WEEKDAY MASSES The 8.30am Mass on Fridays will resume on Friday 13th September.

The 6.45am (Mon-Thurs) Mass will resume on Monday 16th September.

OPEN HOUSE Open House takes place this Monday 2nd September from 6.30pm till 8.00pm in the Parish C e n t re . O p e n H o u s e i s a n opportunity for parishioners to meet a priest without an appointment, to discuss routine matters such as registering for Baptism or Marriage – simply turn up between the times s t a t e d a n d w a i t y o u r t u r n downstairs until called.

EDUCATION SUNDAY Next weekend (7/8th Sept) we celebrate Education Sunday, and there will be a Second Collection after Holy Communion for the support of the work of the Catholic Education Service (CES). The CES acts on behalf of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference to support Catholic education. It has a strong and positive working relationship w i th the B r i t i sh and We lsh governments, sharing the aims of high academic standards for all, and increased parental choice. Catholic schools make up 10% of the national total of maintained schools. There are over 2,000 Catholic schools, academies and colleges in England & Wales educating over 800,000 students. The Catholic Church and the Church of England together provide one-third of all of the schools in the country. The CES is the chief negotiating and advisory body on matters affecting all aspects of Catholic education, and it also

provides financial assistance for school transport in rural areas. As always, please be as generous as your means will allow.

PARENT, BABY & TODDLER GROUPThe Parent, Baby & Toddler Group starts up again on Monday 9th September from 9 - 10.30am in the Parish Centre (27 Nightingale Square). No need to book or register - just turn up. A warm welcome awaits you.

NEXT ALTAR SERVERS’ MEETING Would our Altar Servers please note we will be holding our next meeting for them on SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER, beginning in church at 11.30am. This wi l l be an important meeting, as it is the first one of the new ‘parish year’, and we do expect all our servers to be there. So, please make a note of this date in your diaries now!

INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH?

This autumn, we will begin running a course exploring the Catholic Faith. It would be suitable for those interested in becoming Catholics, or for those who would simply like to know more about what Catholics believe (for example, someone married to a Catholic). If you are interested in finding out more, please email the Parish Office ([email protected]) or speak to one of the priests after Mass. The deadline for expressing an interest is Monday 7th October.

ANNUAL DAY OF RECOLLECTION FOR READERS & EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

The annual day of recollection for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Readers for the South West Area will take place at St Boniface, Tooting SW17 9PG, on Saturday 26th October 2019. Please collect an invitation and programme sheet from the table in the church porch. Fill in the booking form, detach it and hand it over to the priest/parish office. NEED FOR CONFIRMATION CATECHISTS

We a re l ook ing fo r more vo lunteers to he lp a t the Confirmation programme in our parish. The course normally starts in November until June the following year. Please you need n o t w o r r y a b o u t a n y qualifications or prior training as a catechist. All that is required is your passion and desire to share your faith in a simple and accessible way. Training can also be arranged for you in due course. If interested please speak to Fr Tom for more details.

CHURCH CLEANERS NEEDED We are very fortunate in having a beautiful church to worship in here at Holy Ghost. However, keeping the church clean and tidy is a big job, and falls to only a small group of people. We really need some new volunteers to help out with the church cleaning. The cleaning takes place on Wednesdays after the 9.30 Mass, and the more helpers we have, the quicker the job will be. If you could help, please contact the Parish Office – thank you!

GALILEE GROUPS VOCATIONAL DISCERNMENT

T h e G a l i l e e G r o u p i s a n open  group  for men discerning their vocation. The group meets here at Holy Ghost on the First Friday of most months for prayer, fa i th format ion and as an opportunity to get to know others searching for the will of God in their lives. TEEN STAR NEXT SEPTEMBER Teen STAR UK’s programmes for teenagers on relationships, love and sexuality will be offered in 2019-2020. - In the Parish: 13/14 or 15/18 girls' programmes (Mondays after school)-  In Kensington: 15/18 boys' programme (Mondays 6.15 to 7.30pm). Teen STAR UK is also offering a training course for would-be t u t o r s i n J a n u a r y 2 0 2 0 (Wednesday, 8th to Sunday, 12th  inclusive) at the Catholic Centre for Formation (21 Tooting B e c R o a d ) . We w o u l d b e delighted if you were to attend the training course with a view to becoming a fully trained Teen STAR UK tutor. The training also provides a great opportunity for parents, educators...to develop your skills on how to approach those topics with your teenagers.You are invited to a meeting being held at the CCF on Monday, 16th September at 7.30pm.Contact  [email protected] to register your children to the programmes or for any question.

THE SOUTHWARK BRETHREN The Southwark Brethren is a long-standing charity which helps sick and retired Priests who are in need. They thank you for your continuous generosity in the past

and ask for your help again this year. Please send donations to: Rev Paul Hough, St Elpheges Presbytery, 120 Stafford Road, Wallington, Surrey SM6 9AY. Last year they were able to give £1700 each to 40 Priests in the Diocese of Southwark and Arundel and Brighton, and also help 2 working Priests who had serious sickness, to help their situation. In addition, they have a Gift Aid Scheme for those who pay tax and they thank the lay people who have joined by applying for a Gift Aid form.

THE CENTRE FOR CATHOLIC FORMATION - TOOTING BEC

CATECHESIS FOR CHILDREN AGED 3 - 4 T h e C e n t re f o r C a t h o l i c formation (21 Tooting Bec Road, SW17 8BS) will be opening a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) atrium in September 2019 for Children aged 3 or 4 in September.  The weekly sessions will commence on Wednesday 18th September at 3.45pm term time only. If you would like your children to be part of this new initiative which promises to help them explore their Faith from a child-centred perspective then please email Christine Byrne to register your child or to obtain further information:[email protected].  As we only have a few places available it is as a first come f i r s t s e r v e d b a s i s .
