Senior Sunday 2011 This Sunday is a special day in the life of our congregation. It is the day when our

youth who are graduating from high school lead us in worship, both at 8:30 and 11:00. This is always a special time in the life of our church. Although they

have been in worship leadership many times here at Holy Covenant, this is a unique opportunity for them to share the word of God as they have heard it spoken

and seen it lived. We are recognizing 20 seniors this year and I know that you will not want to miss sharing this special time with them. I encourage you to come to worship this Sunday. In fact, you should really come to both services, since we will have

different youth bringing the message at each of our two services!

Although it is difficult to imagine our church and our youth group without them, I am excited about the possibilities opening up

before these amazing young people. I can't wait to see which path they will take next and what they will accomplish with their lives! I hope that you will join me in praying for these seniors as they take their next step with Christ beside them.

Women's Night Out

The theme for this campaign is from Paul's second letter to the

Corinthians, 8:5 - "They gave themselves first to the Lord and, by the will of God, to this ministry." This verse expresses

the truth that all giving that is generous and that deepens our faith is grounded, first and foremost, in our love for the

Lord. The purpose of the "First to the Lord" campaign is to reduce the

church's debt over the next 18 months in order to grow in ministry. Reducing the amount of our monthly mortgage obligation through this campaign will give us more freedom and flexibility in funding current and new ministries.

Over the next several weeks, various church members will be hosting home meetings. You may sign up for the meeting nearest you either online at www.hcumc.org or in the narthex this

Sunday. Thursday, May 26: Jim & Jody Vidrine, hostsTuesday, May 31: Gary & Jan Barnes, hosts

Summer Lunch Program

When caring hearts meet willing hands,  volunteers are created . . .  . . . and great things are accomplished

Holy Covenant United Methodist Church (HCUMC) is partnering with City Square

and the Texas Department of Agriculture Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) to bring food to our neighbors

during the summer months. More than 70 percent of our

neighbors are on free and reduced meals during the school year. We hope to bridge the gap for these families and help stretch

their food buying dollars. HCUMC volunteers will begin feeding children in our Covenant Center on Monday, June 6, and provide meals through Aug. 19.

The women of HCUMC are forming a new fellowship group. This fellowship will

include monthly gatherings, with options for occasional small group book studies, social events, and mission

opportunities throughout the year. Our monthly meetings will be held on the fourth Thursday night

of the month at 6:30 at places to be determined.

Our first monthly meeting

will be Thursday, May 26th at Ann Michael's house. The objective of this meeting, will be to meet

together with women we have met this year from Holy Covenant, from our neighborhoods, from our

workplaces; to learn about one another's lives, and to seek a direction for our ministry and our studies

together. Most important, our agenda is to build one another up in Christian love. What could be

better? Potluck, chocolate, and loving support of our sisters in the faith.

For more information, contact Sheli Erenberger [email protected] or

Sharon Harris [email protected]. All women of the church are invited--sorry

gentlemen--no men allowed!

Music Ministry

Music Ministry Social!

Nutritious meals will be served to children 17 and younger, at no cost to participating families.

If you volunteered last year, we hope you will sign up again this summer. If you didn't, we hope you will consider it this year. Our volunteer staff includes church members who gave up their own lunch hours, retirees, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, youth earning

community hours, and parents from our own Early Childhood Development Program. If your time and talents do not allow you to physically help, we are in need of prayer for our volunteers and those we serve.

Register at www.hcumc.org to volunteer.

Cry for Mercyby Psalmist DavidTo you I call, O Lord my Rock;

do not turn a deaf ear to me.For, if you remain silent, I will be like

those who have gone down to the pit. Hear my cry for mercy as I

call to you for help;as I lift up my hands towards your Most Holy Place. Praise be to the Lord, for He has heard my cry for mercy.

The Lord is my strength and my shield;my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song.
