Coach’s Corner: Back to School Summer is a wonderful time for many folks. It’s a time when we break the regular routine and find ways to carve out opportunities for relaxation and renewal. We enjoy picnics and parks, bike rides and boating, camping and canoeing, and vacations and adventures. It’s a time when we let go of the hectic pace of life and rediscover the simple joy of being in relationship with each other. Jesus often spoke about the need for rest and renewal. Not only did he speak about it, he also practiced it. Sometimes we see Jesus drawing away, from a seemingly needy crowd, for a time of rest. When he returned to the people, he was refreshed, renewed, and fully prepared to pour out of himself the love, grace, healing, and teaching that He was called to. Most of us can relate to the increased ineffectiveness we experience when we are in need of rest and renewal. Jesus calls us to rest with all our being so that we may work with all our being when the time is called. I pray you’ve enjoyed your summer of rest and renewal. Now, let us commit ourselves to return and prepare ourselves to live out the fullness of God’s call on us in this next season. Let us immerse ourselves in prayer and the Word. Let us worship with great expectancy. Let us throw our whole selves into God’s call upon our lives. In this season of action, let us serve our God faithfully with great zeal. PRAISES

Thank you to everyone that came out on August 21st to donate blood! We had 37 successful donations. That means that both Mega Kids and Blessings in a Backpack each made $185. A special thank you to Ellen Pease for helping organize the blood drive and making the taco meat, Heather Swantek for helping set up the food, Sharri Hallett for helping make phone calls and Linda Pittenger for making a dessert. I could not have done it without your help! This means we are able to save MANY more Michigan lives with wonderful Michigan blood. Thank

you for caring, donating, and sharing.

A HUGE Thank you to…….

Barb Casey, Jean Elmer, Kathryn Hill, Ellen Pease, Linda Pittenger, Dawn Rogers, Janet Shiel, and Mary Jane Winohradsky for providing snacks for Get 2 Get To, the Thursday youth group, during the 2017-18 school year!! The search is on for additional people who would like to take two or three turns providing snacks during the upcoming school year. If you are interested, please contact Janet Stack-Miller at 248-425-1760.

Praises to our Lord! The Blood Drive was a success!

Our food pantry is doing great! We served 23 households in July. Thank you to those who donate non-perishable food items, paper and hygiene products during our monthly ingathering.

Thank you to Glenn Carpenter and Ron Pease for picking up the monthly orders and the Youth Group for putting all the items in the pantry.

Adult – Rumors of God- DVD based study (Kevin Nickels facilitating) - Loving Studies

(Marianne Nickels facilitating)

Youth Group (GET-2) – 6th – 12th Grade (John Woolard facilitating) Kids’ Sunday School – Lisa Lindsay facilitating Bible based fellowship, sharing and study; the perfect place to go for sharing & caring every Sunday morning.

Rumors of God is a call to Christians seeking a vision of the life God is calling them to, one that transcends the shallowness of our culture.

This DVD-based small group study will challenge group members to reject what is plausible and to cry out for God to bring what is possible in their lives and in the church.

FUNDRAISERS

MINISTRIES OF THE CHURCH

The Prayer Quilt Team will meet September 17th at 1:oo pm at the church. Workers are needed but quilting or sewing experience is not needed. Can’t make it? th at 4:30

p.m. We will be having a “Minute to Win It”

kickoff! Invite all the kids you know to come and

join us!

Tuesday mornings 11 am to Noon

Learning will be one focus of prayer this month. Proverbs 2:1-2, 5 states “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, . . . then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” We can find the knowledge of God by reading His word, praying, studying the Bible, etc. Each of us should be conscious of what God is teaching us daily – especially in our relationship with Him and others. During Hour of Prayer ministry we will praise God, pray for relationships and other concerns. This ministry meets Tuesdays at 11am to noon. Everyone is welcome. Call Mary Jane Winodradsky with questions at 248-634-3839.

Holly Calvary Church is part of the Kroger rewards program. By using your Kroger Plus card, a percentage of each purchase goes to our Mega Kids program, if you have selected us as the recipient. Our account number is 94660. If you have questions or need help contact Barb Nickels or Ellen Pease.

Please save them and drop them into the blue file

pocket on the bulletin board in the hall. Each

one is worth 10 cents and they sure do add up.

See Brenda Trimmer or Ellen Pease if you have

any questions.
