Children’s Hometown Holiday Happy!

“Wonderful” hardly describes what awaits children as the 9th Annual Children’s Hometown Holiday gets underway December 4-6th. Yet, with all the events planned, the look on the faces of children will definitely be one of wonder. With the Cookie Contest, Lego Show, Gift Wrap Contest

actually beginning in November, the CHH is sure to please.

THE SKATING rink opens Friday at 2:30, although most activities are planned for Saturday, the 5th, beginning with

Santa’s Parade at 9:45 to escort Santa to his House, where he will have exciting gifts for his visitors.

THERE WILL BE plenty of activities from which to choose throughout the morning and afternoon. If the

kids love animals, visit the “On the Way to Bethlehem” tent where camels, sheep, goats, llamas, and a donkey can be seen and fed. Ride ponies, feed Santa’s reindeer, and for a short time see penguins and other live baby animals from the Columbus Zoo. The zoo animals will be in the TSC parking garage on Saturday from 11:00 am till noon ONLY.

So much to do, so much fun to have, don’t miss this great weekend! Visit www.wapakoneta.com for more information.

EACH YEAR THE LIST of the many events and activities that are part of the Children’s Hometown Holiday grows larger, much to the delight of those attending. Throughout the day there will be over 30 different costumed cartoon characters from beloved Mickey and Minnie Mouse to Minions and Krusty Krab. Handing out treats for the kids, they would love to have their picture taken with you!

Besides interacting with the many costumed characters, children can have their faces painted, work on crafts, get photo booth pictures, watch a special movie at the Wapa Theater, and hear stories read by Mrs. Claus at the library. There will be an fun ornament craft throughout the day at Village Green with a Radio Flyer Wagon giveaway to one lucky crafter! Don’t forget to check out Grandview Plaza for other activities, such as a fun snowman mason jar craft, filled with popcorn goodness at the True Value store from 10-2. Register there throughout November for a great quality kid’s sweater jacket to be given away during the crafting activity. Transportation to and from both sites will be provided.

Be entertained by the Dance Centre “Rockettes” as they welcome Santa home, as well as by Micah Nicol’s Magic Show, the WHS Swing Choir and musicians playing around Downtown. Like to sing yourself ? How about joining in the Christmas Singalong in the Parkway from 10-noon. With so much to see and do, you might also want to give your legs a rest by hopping aboard the carriage, trolley and train rides.

AN EXCITING ADDITION TO THE LINEUP this year is the Snowball Drop on Friday, the 4th. Ping pong “snowballs” will be dropped on Main Street by the Fire Department lift truck for three different groups of participants. Babies and toddlers will gather snowballs from 5-5:15, children 4-8 will gather snowballs from 5:15-5:30, and children 9-12 will gather from 5:30-5:45. No one except special needs children will be able to have an adult with them in the last group. Snowballs will be numbered, and prizes can be claimed if kids gather 6 different numbers. There will also be a special snowball, good for a special prize provided by Dad’s Toy Shop.

Finish Saturday with a fireworks display at 6 pm, at the foot ball practice field across from the Middle School, and join Santa on Sunday for a free pancake breakfast from 8-noon, hosted by the Knights of Columbus at their hall. Remember to dress for our Ohio weather and enjoy the many free events planned for the kids. This is a wonderful way to celebrate our children during a magical weekend planned just for them!
