Steve Likens MACCC Scholarship
The Steve Likens MACCC Scholarship has been established to honor the life and career of a true friend and colleague to the Music Association of California Community Colleges.
As the General Manager of Fields Pianos in southern California, Steve was the one to represent the Steinway Corporation as a vendor at MACCC conferences. When the Steinway Reception was introduced, it was Steve who sat in to play the piano and sing with other MACCC attendees. As the years progressed, Steve started bringing his trumpet. The rest is history. Through his dedication to music and education, Steve became more than just a vendor, he became an integral part of the each MACCC conference. Steve passed away in February of 2018 after a courageous seven-month battle with cancer.
It is in the spirit of Steve’s dedication to music and music education that we have created the Steve Likens MACCC Scholar-ship.
The Steve Likens MACCC Scholarship is for traditional lower division California Community College Music students who in-tend to enter a career in one of the many music professions. These professions include, but are not limited to, music teaching, performance, composition, as well as one of the numerous music industry careers in sales, music/arts promotion and mar-keting, artist representation and management, music publishing, instrument development, instrument repair, keyboard tech-nician and/or tuning, stage technician, and, copyright and intellectual property rights law.
Thank you for considering a donation to the Steve Likens Scholarship. Any and all donations matter and will make a differ-ence in the life of our music students and future professional colleagues. One may donate via Check or On-Line. Donations may be tax deductible. Please check with your tax preparation professional.

Message From the President
This year, we're back at the site of so many past exciting and memorable conferences, the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway in San Francisco! I hope you'll be able to attend. In addition to all the music making, there are several new things coming up at our conference this year.
New Conference Format - We're trying out a new scheduling format. For the most part, we will be running only single sessions in each time slot. Hopefully, this will eliminate the usual dilemma of choosing between two great sessions.
Steve Likens Scholarship - We've set up a scholarship fund in the name of long-time friend of MACCC, Steve Likens. Please consider donating to the fund by clicking here. http://macccmusic.com/donations
Revision of Bylaws - A revision of our bylaws will be voted upon at the morning General Session of the conference. In-formation on the proposed changes will be emailed to our membership and posted on our website in September.
Students - Though some are new and some are not, I can't forget our students! Whether they've come before or it's their first conference, they bring a newness to MACCC that is always invigorating. There will be the usual performance opportunities for our students to participate in choir or band, and master classes in piano, strings, and composition.
In addition to all of the above, there is, of course, the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of San Francisco: the opera, the symphony, the restaurants and bars, and just the feel of the city itself! I hope you and your students will come join us in the synergy that is MACCC!
