Spring is here! I hope you are getting a chance to enjoy the warmer weather! Last month we had a virtual performance from the Contemporary Dancers. We finished up our school wide guided inquiry on turtles, and had report cards and Parent Teacher inter- views virtually. We have some new staff in our school, due to the pandemic the school division is supplying us with supply Educational Assistants and Supply Teachers to ensure that we always have enough staff in the school. On our staff for the next three months, we have supply teachers Cheri Moffat and Robert Pederson-Van Norman and for Supply Educational Assistants we have Ms. Rashwinder Kaur and Ms. Amana Czuba. If these staff members are not covering a position in our school or another school, we have them working with students in small groups giving them extra help in reading, writing and math. We also still have our Covid cleaner, Ms. Jyoti cleaning high touch areas throughout the day in addition to our regular staff. In April we saw an increase in the number of students coming to school sick or getting sick at school. It is often better to keep a child home for a day, then send them to school with the symptoms on the What should I Do if My Child is Sickchart (in newsletter) such as fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, vomiting or diarrhea, runny nose, muscle aches, fatigue, pink eyes, headaches, skin rash, or nausea. Because we see these symptoms, children will be asked to stay home for 10 days including siblings or get a covid test and not return until negative and symptom free. If your child has to be sent home or stay home because of illness, we will provide work for your child to do at home if you like, please email your childs teacher or leave a message by phone. We have been encouraging all students to wear masks when possible, even in N-3, as teach- ers are not vaccinated and neither are students. Please send your child with a mask or two daily. In April, Dr. Roussin also suggested people where masks outside so we have been encouraging students to do so as well. We also have snack time outside though lunch is cur- rently indoors. In the event of a school or cohort suspension of classes due to a Covid case or provincial sit- uation, we would be using the Seesaw Classroom app for lessons, as well as Google Meet for meetings. We have practiced this information with families virtually at home in November as well as with students throughout the year. The passwords and information have been sent home twice this year just in case (on hard pink cardstock). We will also continue to use Dreambox for math, and Science A-Z for Science Reading. Please practice looking at these programs at home when you are able. For more information please contact your childs teacher. In the event of classes being suspended we have paper packages ready with Seesaw lessons. The next day you would receive an email with pick up times for the packag- es, virtual meeting times and information for parents labelled as essential workers. See our school website under, Anywhere, Anytime Learningfor more details. Our Spring pictures have been rescheduled for June 4th. Please call the school the day before to make sure this will still be happening. Reminder there are no classes May 3rd next week! We are unsure if there will be a grade 6 farewell with families, but we will make the grade 6 farewell special by having a special lunch for the Grade 6 students in June. We will have more of this information closer to that date. Enjoy the Spring! Dear Parents/Guardians:

We want to bring to your attention the announcement made Friday April 23 by Public Health that people who are age 18 or older and who live or work in front-line jobs in the Downtown East, Inkster East and Point Douglas South neighbourhoods can now make appointments for the COVID-19 vac-cine.

We urge you to consider this option for keeping yourself and your family safe in this pandemic. Spe-cific jobs in these communities that are eligible include school staff, child-care providers, people who work in food-processing facilities, grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations and anywhere that serves food including restaurants and food banks.

If you work in these neighbourhoods but don’t live there, you will need to have a letter from your em-ployer signed and on their business letterhead confirming where you work.

To book an appointment, call 1-844-626-8222 or visit https://protectmb.ca.

A map of eligible communities is available at https://manitoba.ca/covid19/vaccine/eligibility-criteria.html#community-based

If you have questions or need assistance from a WSD Intercultural Support Work, please contact the school at 204-488-4514.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS #6

Physical Education Activities for the month of May will focus on the following:

Primary students (Grade 1-3) will be doing the Fundamental Movement Skills As-sessment and will work on running, jumping and throwing challenges.

Intermediate students (Grade 4-6) will also be doing the Fundamental Movement Skills Assessment and will work on softball games and track/field events.

Reminder:

All students are expected to be prepared with appropriate outdoor footwear and indoor runners. We want to ensure that everyone plays safe and the gym floors remain clean. Thank you for your cooperation. Due to Covid protocols, Gym classes are outside whenever possible.

Stay safe and stay active,

Mr. Taronno

MUSIC NEWS Students from Grade 1 - 6 have been working at learning their Sharing Dance piece the past couple weeks. It has been so nice to see students moving and expressing themselves through dance! Once we have learned the whole dance we will record each class outside in the field and will be able to share with families via SeeSaw sometime this month. I will be posting the choreography on Seesaw and en-courage students to practice at home. Nursery and Kindergarten students have also been exploring movement through different ideas, sounds, and music as well. It is always fun to see their uninhibited expression! Students have also been working on Music Theory in class to build a stronger understanding of music. Students have been picking it up really well and I look forward to seeing them use this knowledge as we continue learning this year. “Never stop dancing to the music in your heart.” ~ Katrina Mayer

Attendance letters are sent home from class-room teachers if your child is away for more than 3 times or absences are unverified. We also have a truancy officer, Doug Yuel, who visits homes when students are absent. The Truancy of-ficer is a helpful resource.
