Millslaglereceived the Dale Geddieaward. The award is given to alaw enforcement officer whoexhibits honor, integrity andprofessionalism, according tothe Smith County DefenseLawyer's Association.
"I'm honored - I rememberWeldon when he was one of thefounding members of the SmithCounty Defense Lawyer'sAssociation; he was a gentle-man who would always fight forhis client," Huggler said. '"Ib becompared to him is a tremen-dous honor," he said.
Huggler, who has been boardcertified in criminal law since2005, graduated from TexasA&M University and receivedhis law degree from SouthTexasCollege of Law in Houston. Heis finishing his term as presidentof the Smith County DefenseIawyer's Association and is apast president of the SmithCountv B ar Association.
Jac-kson. whose father AlanJackson is the chief prosecutorfor the U.S. Anorney's Offrcewith the Eastern District ofTexas, said he has memories ofHolcomb.
"Mr. Holcomb was a hero ofmine growing up - it's anhonor to be associated withhim," Jackson said.
Jackson graduated from theUniversity of Dallas andreceived his law degree fromTexas Tech University. Jacksonwas named a 2010 Rising StarSuper Lawyer, an award givento the top 2.5 percent of attor-neys in Texas under 40.
The Weldon Holcomb Awardwas established in honor of aTller attorney of that name, whowas a founding member of both

Criminal Defense LawyersAssociations. The World War IIveteran and Tyler nativeserved as the elected SmithCounty district attorney in the1950s and spent the rest of hiscareer as a defense attorney inthe area. He argued and wontwo cases before the U.S.Supreme Court.
The Dale Geddie Award isgiven in memory of ConstableDale Geddie, who was killedin the line of dutv in 2006.
Geddie was a longtime SmithCounty private investigator,police offrcer and constable.
Alan Jackson. who isMillslagle's supervisor, saidthe community is best servedwhen law enforcement ofh-cers vigorously but ethicallyenforce the law.
"This award from thedefense bar confirms thatagent Millslagle has made acareer of doing just that," AlanJackson said.
