LITTLE ROCK, AR - On Friday, March 8, the Consu-late of Mexico in Little Rock and the Arkansas Human Development Corporation (AHDC) signed a Memoran-dum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize and strengthen the work that for nearly six years both institutions have been making.

Mexican Consul David Preciado during the signing said, “The signing of this agreement governs how the two institutions refer to our users with our counterparts so that they can get in a more ra-pid and orderly our services.”

The MoU, first of its kind signed by this Consu-late, also includes a number of collaborations that allow Mexicans in the region know the number of benefits that the AHDC has for them, such as education and health services for farmworkers

CHICAGO, IL – First Lady Michelle Obama today launched Let’s Move! Active Schools, an unprecedented collaboration to bring physi-cal activity back to Ameri-ca’s schools. The program provides simple steps and tools to help schools create active environments where students get 60 minutes of physical activity before, dur-ing and after the school day. Mrs. Obama called on school staff, families and commu-nities to work together to reach an ambitious goal of engaging 50,000 schools in this program over the next five years.

Funding and other re-sources for Let’s Move! Active Schools are being kick-started by NIKE, Inc.,

the GENYOUth Foundation, ChildObesity180, Kaiser Permanente, and the Gen-eral Mills Foundation, the inaugural sponsor of the Presidential Youth Fitness Program.

The program mobilizes physical education teachers, classroom teachers, admin-istrators, staff, and even parents to be “school cham-pions” for their community. School champions are en-couraged to sign up at www.LetsMoveSchools .org , where they will be guided along a simple, six-step pro-cess. Participating schools will have access to free tools and resources, including in-person trainings, program activation grants, and direct, personal assistance from certified professionals.

“With each passing year,

schools feel like it’s just get-ting harder to find the time, the money, and the will to help our kids be active. But

just because it’s hard doesn’t mean we should stop try-ing, it means we should try harder. It means that all of us

According to the Physi-cal Activity Guidelines for Americans, children and adolescents need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day to stay healthy. However, kids today are the most sedentary generation

in America’s history. Only 1 in 3 children is active on a daily basis and only 4% of elementary schools, 8% of middle schools and 2% of high schools offer daily P.E. Meanwhile, only 9 states require recess in elementary schools.

Kids spend a signifi-cant portion of their time

in school, which is why the First Lady is focusing this initiative on the school environment as a key place to increase access to quality physical activity, so that all students can stay healthy and reach their potential.

Chávez murió después de una bata-lla contra el cáncer después de servir 14 años como líder de la nación sudamericana. Chávez murió el martes a los 58 años.

La constitución de Ve-nezuela ordena comicios presidenciales dentro de los 30 días de la muerte de Chávez el 5 de marzo, pero la fecha programada queda fuera de dicha ventana.

El presidente interino Nicolás Maduro, un prote-gido de Chávez quien se ha comprometido a preservar la llamada revolución so-cialista de Chávez, encabe-za las encuestas. Maduro fue inaugurado al finalizar el Funeral de estado de Chávez el viernes.

Varias fuentes prefieren elecciones 13 de abril, el aniversario del retorno de Chávez al poder tras un bre-ve golpe de estado en 2002.

Líder de la oposición coalición y el gobernador del estado, Henrique Capri-les, quien se postuló contra Chávez en las elecciones de octubre, ha puesto en duda el derecho de Maduro

como líder provisional. Capriles se espera que sea el candidato de la oposición en contra de Maduro en la elección especial, aunque muchos en su partido están preocupados por la equidad de la votación.

Chávez ha sido com-parado con otros revolu-cionarios latinoamericanos como Simón Bolívar y Fidel Castro, pero también hay paralelos entre Chávez y Juan Perón, ex presidente

Acting President Ni-colás Maduro, a Chávez protégé who has pledged to preserve Chávez’s so-called socialist revolution, is lea-ding in the polls. Maduro was inaugurated following Chávez’s funeral on Friday.

Multiple sources men-tioned that some preferred April 13, as the election date, the anniversary of Chávez’s return to power after a brief coup in 2002.

Opposition coalition leader and state governor Henrique Capriles, who ran against Chavez in the Oc-tober election, has disputed Maduro’s right to be interim leader. Capriles is expected to be the opposition can-didate against Maduro in the special election, though many in his party are concer-

ned about the vote’s fairness.In the days leading up to

Chavez’s funeral, mourners paid tribute to the former leader known for his bistros leadership and outsized per-sonality.

Following in the foots-

teps of other leaders like Vla-dimir Lenin, Josef Stalin and more recently North Korea’s Kim Jong Il, Chavez’s body will be embalmed and put permanently on display, Maduro said Thursday.

Chavez has been com-

pared to other Latin Ame-rican revolutionary figures like Simon Bolivar and Fidel Castro, but there are also parallels between Chavez and Juan Peron, Argentina’s former president, who was first elected in 1946.

Like Chavez, Peron was a military man; like Chavez, he was a coup plotter. He also was elected president and benefited from a huge commodity boom and star-ted giving away money to the poor.

Chavez is credited with using Venezuela’s vast oil reserves to bolster other Latin America countries

and bring in billions to his nation’s economy. Many supporters referred to him as “the president of the poor” another trait he shared with Peron.

Chavez believed him-self to be the successor of Simon Bolivar, the 19th century political leader who helped Latin America ob-tain its independence from Spain. He dreamt of uniting all Latin America countries, something Eduardo Gama-rra, who teaches politics and international relations at Florida International Uni-versity, says Chavez came pretty close to achieving.

“One might say that his legacy is going to be measured by whether or not that attempt to integrate Latin America will survive,” Gamarra said.

One thing that is likely to survive is the idea of Chavismo, or the “cult of Chavez.” We are likely to see Chavismo on the right, left and center of Venezuelan politics in the future.

“Chavez gave endless speeches almost every day for hours at a time,” he says, “and there are enough quotes by Chavez to justify almost anything. A lot of people who were anti-Chavez ... now proclaim themselves to be Chavistas.”

One of those Chavistas is Maduro, who hopes to succeed Chavez by winning the upcoming election. Whi-le crying at the funeral Fri-day, Maduro said, however, he has big shoes to fill.

Tennessee and took place at the Hot Springs Convention Center, Hot Springs on March 7 and 8, 2013.

Arkansas has over 4,000 HIV positive individuals throughout the state, that are not-in-care. About 1,400 of those do not even know

health education those living in medically under served areas and special populations, such as the homeless, and HIV infected individuals.
