We had a wonderful time, raised a lot of

money, and witnessed a beautiful sunset!

NRHP ApplicationNRHP ApplicationOn November 20th, Friends of Hodges Gardens presented the nomination of Hodges

Gardens to the National Registry of Historic Places. It was accepted and we now await the

decision of the Federal Reviewer in Washington. Special appreciation to James urner,

who made the presentation; as well as to Marci Cook and John Crook with Vernon Parish

ourism for their help and support.

JOIN USTe Friends o Hodges Gardens State Park would like to invite you to JOIN US! We offi cially ormed in 2008 as anon-prot 501c(3) corporation in an effort to help promote, preserve and restore Hodges Gardens. Te Gardenshave been a part o our community or over 60 years and hold so many different memories or each o us.Perhaps you or your athers and grandathers laid the stone walkways and helped Mr. Hodges during the

construction years.Or maybe you remember watching the Fountain change colors to the Christmas music or

Santas workshop with the elves working away. Maybe you came with your elementary class to Flag Island and

stood on all the states on the terrazzo tile map and gazed at the gigantic ags? Maybe it was walking the garden

paths lled with tulips and roses or sitting at Lookout ower high above it all looking down at the tall pines. It

may have even been the place where you ell in love or got marriedAt the Double Staircase or High Waterall.

Te old adage it began in the Garden still holds true today. Perhaps you remember it back in the day or

maybe you have just come to know it and would like to help preserve it or your uture generations. Like you, we

all have our personal reasons or being a part o the Gardens.

Hodges Gardens became a very unique part o the Louisiana State Park system in 2007 and subject to the all too

amiliar state budget. Trough Friends memberships and generous tax-deductible donations we have been able

to help the park return the Easter Sunrise Service with Centenary Choir that was begun in 1955 and to purchase

a new motor or the Willow Point Fountain. We have also started some new traditions like Spring Fling

Festival, the Duck Races and Egg Hunt at Easter and the Loop Run. Friends has provided the park with an

outdoor movie theater system that engages amilies throughout the year. And, 2014 begins the third o a ve

year plan to return the Christmas Lights to the Gardens.

We need you! We need your help through volunteering, membership or a donation earmarked or one o the
