Principal’s Report Dear Parents and Carers In my short time at Hobartville PS I have been impressed by the teamwork of the students and staff, backed up by the support of a wonderful school community. It is always a pleasure be able to share our successes and achievements with all. Sadly, last Friday we were advised of the passing of one of our parents, Mr Tanner. I know I speak for all of our school community in expressing our deepest sympathy to Mrs Tanner, Jacob and Hayden in their loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time. Striving and achieving is the focus for students at Hobartville PS and they have continued to shine in their recent pursuits and activities. Our school Environment Team have been extremely busy in recent weeks, tendering and extending our gardens, particularly the vegetable and rainforest gardens. During Education Week, Ms Molluso, School Education Director (Hawkesbury) visited our school with two student ambassadors from Hawkesbury High School. Ms Molluso was impressed with the hospitality and knowledge of our Environment Team, who gave informative talks on many aspects of the gardens, their construction and the future plans. Ms Molluso was also able to join in some Mathematics classes with K1C and K1W; thoroughly enjoyed a rendition of ‘Colour My World’ and delighted in a short visit to KG. Our senior students have been busy putting their cricket skills to the test. Last Friday we were represented at the Milo Cup Cricket Gala Day with both our girls and boys team making it through to the finals. Both teams were honourable in their performances and the boys were rewarded with a win. The boys will now progress to a regional final. Our boys State Knockout Cricket team were also successful in their recent match with Erskine Park PS. They too now progress to the next level. Well Done! This week we extend our best wishes to:
District Athletics
Our school will be represented by 44 students at the Hawkesbury PSSA Athletics Carnival to be held at McMahons Park, Kurrajong. Students will be competing in the field events on Wednesday 22 August, followed by the track events on Friday 24 August. I am sure the achievements at the recent Olympics will provide additional inspiration for our young athletes. Good Luck everyone! Hawkesbury Music Festival Rehearsal
Our talented school choir will be attending a combined Hawkesbury Schools rehearsal at Hawkesbury High School on
Tuesday 21 August in preparation for the Hawkesbury Music Festival to be held in Term 4. The choir has been working hard at lunch time each week to learn and practise their repertoire of songs and we were WOWED by their performance at the Education Week Spectacular with just a snippet of the repertoire – Well Done! Hobartville Public School is definitely the place to be! Kindest regards Karen Chamberlain

Kindergarten for 2013
We have had a few new Kindergarten enrolments in the
last 2 weeks, which is wonderful. This also tells us that
many new parents to the area aren’t aware of the
importance of being enrolled for 2013 right now! Our
teaching staff numbers for 2012 are based on ALL our
current enrolments, including our known/intended
Kindergarten enrolments for 2013! We would also like all
our 2013 Kindergarten students to join in our Kindergarten
Orientation Program. If you are already a member of our
school or have friends with pre-school children intending to
enrol in 2013 and are in our area, please encourage
them to enrol immediately.

Environment Update
We have been successful in gaining a $1000 grant from the
Alive Group to implement a Wildlife Project in our school. After
attending a workshop at the University of Western Sydney the
students of S3C have decided to design and build 30 nesting
boxes to encourage native birds to flourish in our playground.
Our forest project has continued to develop with further
plantings happening during the past week. We have now
planted in excess of 150 trees and shrubs since National Tree
Day last year. This is a great achievement and we are looking
forward to doing further plantings in the coming weeks.
The vegetable garden is looking fabulous with our winter crops
nearing maturity. If you would like some parsley for your winter
dishes please ask as we are more than happy to share our
produce.
My thanks go to Leif Rosengaard for assisting in the
development of the forest area.
