HIV and AIDS impact analysis
1. The organisations capacity regarding HIV and AIDS. Does the
organisation need to increase its capacity? What has been learned
during previous HIV and AIDS interventions? SMC encourages
cooperation with human resources/organisations with competence in
HIV and AIDS, if this is necessary to plan and carry out an
intervention.
2. HIV and AIDS within the organisation. How are HIV and AIDS
affecting the organisation? Does the organisation have a staff policy
about HIV and AIDS that covers issues like health insurance, job
security and equal opportunity as well as support for families and thecommunity? Is there a need to develop or update the current staff
policy? Has the staff received HIV and AIDS training?
3. HIV and AIDS and the organisations activities: Is there a policy or
guidelines for AIDS and HIV-related issues? (If the organisation has an
HIV and AIDS policy it can be attached it to the application).
4. The goal of the intervention and how it addresses HIV and AIDS.
What are the specific problems involving HIV and AIDS in the area of
the intervention? What are the consequences?
5. Target Groups: How are the target group/s of the intervention affected
by HIV and AIDS? Are specific groups or individuals in the
community especially vulnerable with respect to HIV and AIDS?
6. Activities: Are additional activities necessary to reinforce the effects of
the intervention concerning the prevention of the spread of HIV and
AIDS? Are there activities that need to be included in the intervention
because of HIV and AIDS?
For interventions in sub-Saharan Africa:
7. Activities: How will the activities during the intervention directly or
indirectly be able to reduce the spread and consequences of HIV and
AIDS? Does the intervention include an education component that
addresses and aims to change attitudes towards sexuality for example?
Does the intervention include work to increase health care, or does it
alleviate the effects of HIV and AIDS in other ways? The text below
provides some suggestions for how an HIV and AIDS perspective could
be included in activities.

Use one or more of the following strategies for inclusion of an HIV and AIDS
perspective in the project activities.
1. Work with AIDS can be incorporated into existing activities. (Forexample, education in HIV and AIDS can raise the target groups
consciousness in their work on a daily basis)
2. Look at how other activities can contribute to reducing the spread of or
alleviating HIV and AIDS (can activities be designed so that vulnerable
homes/individuals are sure to be included?);
3. Start cooperating with other organisations that have special competence
in HIV and AIDS and that work with the same target group. (The
cooperation may increase the awareness of and/or alleviate the effects
of HIV and AIDS through the competence of the other organisation).
To sum up, these three strategies provide an opportunity to include an
AIDS and HIV perspective through prevention and/or the alleviation of the
effects of HIV and AIDS for all interventions in sub-Saharan Africa.
