History/Geography Longitude and Latitude This Autumn, we will be looking at longitude and latitude, and thinking about their impact on climate and time differences around the world. As part of the topic, we will also be improving our mapping skills, and visiting the Greenwich Meridian. Science Reversible and Irreversible Changes In Science this term, we will be looking at reversible and irreversible changes, where we will be doing cross curricular work with Data Handling in Numeracy. This will develop both our scientific knowledge as well as our graph and chart making skills. PE Basketball and Dance PE will be on a Friday this year, so please ensure that all children bring their kits with them. We will be playing basketball during the outdoor PE session, where we will focus on developing our tactics and sports awareness. For indoor PE, we will introduce dance, composing our own performance pieces. Art/DT Colour Around the World This term, we will be linking our art and geography topics, thinking about different artistic traditions around the world and how they use colour. The children will then have the opportunity to choose a region which interests them to inspire their own high-quality piece of art for display. RE Judaism Following World Faiths Week, we will go on to look at Judaism. We will be trying to understand the key aspects of the Jewish Faith, and beliefs, linking it to our knowledge of the Old Testament. We will build on this in Literacy later in the year. Numeracy 4 Operations, Patterns At the beginning of the year, it is vital to ensure that all children have quick recall of their times tables and number facts and are able to add, subtract, multiply and divide accurately as this will underpin our work throughout the year. We will be doing regular times tables tests and should know all times tables to 12. Working on patterns will reinforce this. Music Tempo The children will continue to have the opportunity to enjoy choir. We will be looking at rhythm and tempo in class music lessons this term, which will build on the hymn practice which children enjoy every Monday afternoon. Other Subjects Cathedral Service Year 6 will be leading the school’s first Cathedral Service of the year on Friday 26 th September at 9.30. We will be thinking about new beginnings and making the most of the opportunities that we have. All welcome! Literacy Short Stories This term, we will begin by assessing the children’s Literacy levels and assigning them clear targets which will enable them to reach a more advanced writing level.
