History T he property is now proudly the heritage designation in scenic enclave of St. Catharines’ westernmost gateway on Hwy. 8, a former Indian trail, and one of the oldest roads in Niagara. The building was constructed in two stages. The original stone part at the rear was built first and dates back to 1812. Captain John McCarthy purchased the land in 1828, he operated it as an Inn and Stage shop under the moniker ‘McCarthy’s Tavern’ from the early 1830’s until at least 1837. It was rumored that McCarthy shot the man responsible for killing General Isaac Brock. Architecture T he main house was built in the Georgian Vernacular Style. The gabled ends are trimmed and have decorative brackets with a pendant. The house now boasts modern electricity, plumbing and conveniences of a modern estate. 2. McCarthy’s Suite – 2nd floor Four poster king sized bedroom, full candlelight mantle,

rocking chair, conversation table, walk-in closet with built ins, bathroom offering an oval Jacuzzi tub, stand alone shower and mini fridge.

3. Family Suite – 2nd floor Boasts two private rooms with a shared 4-piece connecting

jack and jill bathroom. Main bedroom offers a king sized plush bed couch and conversation table with mantle. Second bedroom offers two twin beds.

4. Shiraz Suite – 2nd floor Perfect for two with 4-piece bath and built in shelves.

Features plush double bed, conversation table, private.

Including Living room, pull-out. Entire Manor sleeps 12.

Complimentary laundry onsite and water softener.

The Merlot Cottage

L ocated far enough away from the main house and

surrounded by towering trees. Directly overlooking the Mill pond with a private deck to watch the swans go by in front of you.

Cottage features a king size bed, 4-piece bath and a kitchenette stocked with modern conveniences. On cooler nights, enjoy the wood burning stove and candle light, Niagara chocolate and aged wood.
