The perfect combination of historic design and advanced technology.

Hurd has brought historic windows and patio doors into the 21st century. Created from solid wood and architecturally correct designs, our newest line of products will add classic styling and uncompromised energy efficiency to any home. We’ve been making Hurd windows and doors by hand—carefully and proudly—for more than 85 years. As a result, they not only fit better and look better, they also perform better. As you read our catalog, please remember one thing. We’re striving for the same ideal as you: Perfection.

With its golden hues, comforting touch and natural insulating properties, wood warms the soul of any room. As beautiful as wood is, however, if your cabinets are oak and your windows are pine, things might look amiss. That’s why we give you the option of choosing from 12 different species of wood. Pick your favorite color. Here’s a sampling of our more than 180 standard colors, but you can order any custom color you desire.

Protect the parts paint can’t reach. Three-part factory finish is electrostatically bonded to each component before final assembly.

1 Preservative

2 Polymer Primer

We offer a premium factory finish. It provides unsurpassed, six-sided protection from the weather and UV rays, and comes with a 15-year warranty. Here’s why it’s so superior. Before assembly, each window or patio door component is actually soaked with preservative, and then—still before final assembly—the primer and topcoat are electrostatically bonded onto all surfaces. Even if you’ve never been inside a home under construction, you’d expect that things get a little dusty. On the other hand, our factory finishing is done in an ultra-clean environment where the temperature and humidity are always perfect and so is the end result.

Due to printing limitations, the colors shown on this page are only a limited representation of the actual colors. See your Hurd distributor for actual color samples.

You can have us paint one side and stain the other, stain both sides, or leave the interior natural to finish on site.

Preserve your history with our premium exterior wood finish.

Few things add more classic charm to a home than custom grilles and custom glass. You can choose from a variety of grille options, or design your own. We offer authentic style Vintage Series divided lites, grilles in the airspace and removable wood grilles. Or you might choose to warm your dining room with decorative glass. With Hurd’s innovative technologies, you can create stunning stained, leaded glass windows without the slightest compromise in design, performance or energy efficiency. Of course, our standard glazing is also special. It’s Low-E, argon-filled, double-glazed to provide higher insulation values.

Not just divided lites, they’re Hurd Leaded Lites.

Hurd Leaded Lites are a high tech, fully sealed glass sandwich, with leaded grilles inside the unit and on the exterior.

Casement Bays. The casement bay is an elegant way to add space, light and interest in any room. On a south-facing wall, it becomes a sun and heat collector, creating a cozy nook for reading and relaxing. We can build your bay in 30°, 45° or custom angle configurations.

Casement Bows. The bow window adds graceful, gently curving interior space and character to your home. Bow windows can be made from any combination of fixed or operating casement sections with either left or right opening. Choose from three-, four- and five-unit combinations.

Single and Double Hung Bays. The ever-popular bay window takes on a different look by flanking the picture window with single or double hung windows. Enjoy all the advantages inherent in any bay--extra space, more light and a better view.

Picture Windows. Picture windows can be used alone or combined with other units to form feature windows. They’re available with or without sash--an important aesthetic consideration when combining them with other Hurd products.

Slider Windows. These windows have one fixed sash and one smooth gliding sash with a secure meeting rail lock in between. Only a half screen is required.

Hopper Windows. Get great ventilation in any kind of weather with a Hurd hopper window. Use them alone or in combination with other windows. Choose from lever lock or transom catch styles of locking hardware.

A very special home deserves very special windows.

Give your home dramatic visual interest—inside and out—with our special shape windows. Whether you’re turning a wall into a massive display of glass, or simply adding one extraordinary window to brighten up an ordinary room, Hurd has the answer.

Add wow to your windows. Imagine a French door in your bedroom with a round top. Or a set of casements in the kitchen that are anything but square. We can build our swinging patio door, casement, single hung, double hung, picture or fixed window in a camber-top, quarter-round or half-round shape. Imagine the possibilities.

Extended Half-Rounds.

Half-Round Window.

The only way to top our windows and patio doors. Our quarter-rounds, half-rounds, ellipticals and transoms each work well alone. But to really light up a room, stack them on top of our awnings, casements, picture windows, single or double hungs, garden doors or patio doors.

Geometric shapes. Look around your home or study your plans for a chance to make a special statement with one of our stand-alone geometrics. For many rooms, they’re the perfect accent piece.

Custom shapes. Show us your ideas and we’ll take it from there.

Swinging French doors. We offer you multiple ways to open up your indoor world with the traditional elegance of solid wood French doors. You can choose doors that swing in or swing out. You can make both doors operable, or just one. You can even order them with a curving half-round or camber-top. You’ll appreciate the security of our three-point locking system, plus the energy efficiency, attention to detail and innovative engineering you’ve come to expect from Hurd.

Center hinging is also available, as shown here.

Our standard sill is bronze anodized aluminum with an oak crown.

Low-profile outswing sills are available in bronze anodized.

You can also choose a solid oak or mahogany sill.

Even with your sill, we give you lots of choices.

Garden patio doors. Sliding patio doors.

It’s a door. It’s a window. It’s a great idea. The garden patio door gives you the full-length view and ventilation of a window with the look of a door. The venting side is completely screened and easy to operate. Garden patio doors are available in five- or six-foot widths, and can be combined with our half-rounds, ellipticals or transoms.

Hurd quality hardware ensures smooth opening and secure closing.

Brass lockset with deadbolt.

For smooth-as-silk operation and a wide-open view, you can’t beat Hurd solid wood sliding patio doors. They’re available in five-, six- or eight-foot widths and two different heights. The harder the wind blows against the outer sliding panel, the tighter it seals itself. If you prefer wider stiles for your historic installation, you can also order our sliding door as a French sliding door.

Sleek, slim lines highlight our sliding patio door.

Optional patio door deadbolt for ventilation with security. French wide stile panels add a new look.

Specifications. All standard product sizes are shown in this section. Custom sizes and shapes are also available. Consult your Hurd distributor for details.

.How to read the charts The “racetrack” around each chart details size information for each product. Use the code numbers below products for ordering. Left or right hinging is designated as if viewing from the exterior. Sample grille patterns are shown in blue as suggestions only.

US Egress Code The colored triangles in the corner of some chart windows indicate that these sizes meet the US Egress Code. For emergency escape, each bedroom must have a window with a minimum 20” width and 24” height opening and a total opening area of at least 5.7 square feet. This varies by state. Please check local standards.

Canadian Egress Code The colored dots in the corner of some chart windows indicate that these sizes meet the Canadian Egress Code. For emergency escape, each bedroom must have a window with a minimum 15” opening each way and a total opening area of at least 3.8 square feet. In Ontario, every floor level containing bedrooms must be provided with at least one outside window that can be opened from the inside without the use of tools. Total opening area is as per Canadian code.

Sight lines Average sitting and standing eye levels should be considered when planning your installations.

How to measure when replacing a windowFor a quotation, measure the interior window casing from edge to edge as shown in Figure 1. To place an order, either you or your contractor must remove the window casing. Measure as shown in Figure 2 for the rough opening.

C. Your Hurd product may contain inert gas, intended to improve the thermal performance of the product. However, the best manufacturing techniques cannot guarantee that the initial fill rate of inert gas will be maintained during the product’s life-time and Hurd makes no such guarantee. Therefore, the effectiveness of inert gas is not warranted and if the product is fitted with a capillary tube, it must be

treated as if it is entirely air filled.
