QUEEN – BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

Queen’s release of the Bohemian Rhapsody video has been credited as the first ever music video. It was released in the 70s. Some argue that it was a hit from The Buggles that really projected music video into the limelight.

MUSICAL INNOVATIONThe key to music videos becoming a success, of course, lies with the development of the video and editing processes, along with the development of “special effects”. This development has also increased the costing of making a music video meaning that a great deal of time, effort and money is in place to ensure they are successful. By the 80s, the release of a single was almost always accompanied with a music video – this became taken for granted and a mandatory expectation.

The industry became more competitive with artists and record companies competing against one another to have the “best selling song”.
