Day 2: Lisbon

Walking tour of the Alfama districtExperience Old World atmosphere as you stroll the winding streets inLisbon's age-old Moorish Alfama district. Many of the city's survivinghistorical buildings are located in the Alfama, including 16th centuryaristocratic palaces and churches. Here you will wander the narrowcobblestone streets that make up this district. In places, the streetsare only 4 feet wide!

Day 3: Lisbon

Guided sightseeing of LisbonRecall the Age of Discovery at Padrão dos Descobrimentos and theTorre de Belém. It was from here that many navigators set sail,including Bartolomeu Dias, who sailed around the southern tip ofAfrica. Then visit the Castelo de São Jorge, Lisbon's oldestmonument, in the Alfama district. The early kings of Portugal onceresided inside the castle, enjoying breathtaking views of the city andthe Tagus River below.

Visit to the Mosteiro dos JerónimosFurther relive the days when Portugal was a great trading empire asyou visit the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, built by King Manoel to honorthe country's great voyagers. Here the king lies buried, along withVasco da Gama, who sailed from Portugal in 1497 and discovered asea route to India.

Visit the Museu do AljubeThis former prison has been transformed into a museum thatcommemorates the fight for freedom in Portugal and honors thehistory of resistance in the country.

Visit the Museu do OrienteMake a visit to this waterfront museum that holds collections of Asianart from across the continent.

Day 4: Lisbon

Guided excursion to Sintra and CascaisEnjoy a half-day excursion to the hillside town of Sintra, referred to byLord Byron as “glorious Eden.” Here you'll visit the National Palace ofSintra, whose two conical chimneys reign as the town's mostrecognizable landmarks. Continue to the charming beach town ofCascais, home to many of the exiled royal families of Europe afterWorld War II, including those of Spain, Italy and Bulgaria.

Day 5: Lisbon | Seville

Travel via a guided sightseeing of Évora to SevilleA local guide will lead you on a sightseeing tour of Évora. A walledtown since Roman times, Évora is now mostly Moorish in characterwith alleys cut by arches and brilliant, whitewashed houses decoratedwith colorful azulejos (tiles). Évora was once the seat of Portugueseroyalty. Its town center, the Praca de Giraldo, has been designated aUNESCO World Heritage Site. During your tour, you will see the Aguade Prata Aqueduct (Silver Water Aqueduct) and the Igreja Real de SaoFrancisco.

Arrive in SevilleWelcome to Seville-capital of Andalusia, birthplace of Velázquez, andhost of the 1992 World's Fair. If you're lucky enough to arrive inspring, Seville will greet you with the sweet fragrance of orangeblossoms.

Walking tour of SevilleMeet at the base of the skyline-dominating Giralda Tower for yourwalking tour of Seville. This unique minaret can be ascended bythirty-five gentle ramps and has long been the bell tower of theChristian Cathedral. You will pass the 12th-century octagonal Torredel Oro (The Golden Tower) once part of the city wall on theGuadalquivir river

Day 6: Seville

Free time to expore Plaza de EspanaThis afternoon, visit the impressive Plaza de Espana in Parque deMaria Luisa to see the large space dedicated to the history andculture of Spain. This architectural landmark exemplifies thecombination of Baroque, Moorish, and Renaissance Spanish styles.

Guided sightseeing of SevilleHispalis, as Seville was called in Roman times, rests on the banks ofthe Río Guadalquivir and is Spain's only river port. See the OldTobacco Factory, setting of Bizet's opera, Carmen, Then, visit MariaLuisa Park to view the beautiful mosaics of Plaza de España, built forthe 1929 Ibero-American Fair. Next, walk through thegeranium-strewn alleys of the Barrio de Santa Cruz, an aesthetic treatyou'll always remember. As you wind your way through this historicJewish Quarter, notice the whitewashed houses with sand-coloredtrim-this is typical of Sevillian-style architecture. Top off your tour witha guided visit to the Seville Cathedral, the world's third largest church,and the Moorish Alcázar. Built for Pedro the Cruel in the 14th century,the Alcázar is one of the purest examples of mudéjar architecture inthe world. When the Moorish Alcázar is closed (Mondays), groups willvisit the Casa de Pilatos.

Visit the Museo de Bellas ArtesThe Museum of Fine Arts of Seville holds primarily Spanish worksspanning centuries. From medieval times to modern day, explore thisimpressive collection and admire the architecture of the building.

Day 7: Seville

Visit Las Setas Sevilla (Metropol Parasol)Spend some time admiring and exploring the Metropol Parasol, theworld's largest wooden structure. Located in the old quarter of Seville,construction of this unique structure took six years and cost anestimated 100 million euros.

Enjoy free time to explore a local marketYour Tour Director will bring you to one of Seville's famous markets toexplore, barter, and enjoy some lunch.

Visit the Torre del OroThe Golden Tower is a 13th century observation tower build by theMoorish Almohad dynasty. The tower was part of the city's defensivewall and was connected to another nearby tower, the Torre de laPlata (Silver Tower). In order to stop ships from entering the city, ahuge chain linked the Torre del Oro to another tower across the river.

Day 8: Seville | Madrid

Travel by AVE train to MadridBoard Spain's high-speed train, dubbed the AVE-Alta VelocidadEspañola. The first AVE train was inaugurated in 1992 with thecompletion of the Madrid-Sevilla line. The train will reach a maximumspeed of more than 180 miles per hour before arriving in Madrid, yourdestination for the evening.

Guided sightseeing of MadridYour local guide introduces you to the sights of Madrid on apanoramic tour of the city. Next, get a taste of royal Madrid at theextravagant Palacio Real, where you'll wander the fabulous palaceinterior and find more than 2,000 rooms decked in beautiful frescoes,delicate porcelain wares and finely woven rugs.

Visit the Prado MuseumExplore the Museo del Prado which houses an astonishing 3,000paintings collected by Spanish royalty. Day 9: Madrid

Visit the Thyssen-Bornemisza MuseumThe Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is often referred to as part of the“Golden Triangle of Art”, along with the Prado and Reina Sofia. Ithouses over 1,600 paintings, many of which are in the Impressionistand Expressionist styles.

Free time at Retiro ParkEnjoy some time relaxing in one of the largest parks in Madrid.Located very near the city center, this beautiful park has manysculptures, monuments and even a lake.

Participate in a cooking classSpanish cuisine is as diverse as the country's geography, climate andculture. Since being established as the capital of Spain by King FelipeII in the 16th century, Madrid has been a true melting pot of thecuisines developed in the country's various regions. Visit the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina SofíaVisit the “MOMA” of Madrid. See the greatest collection of20th-century art in Spain, including Picasso's famous Guernica(1937), in a building that was once designated “the ugliest building inSpain” by architect Oriol Bahigas.
