The Stamp Act
passed in March
1765, and It was
designed to force
colonists to pay a tax for
special stamps in papers,
newspapers, pamphlets,
in all commercial and
legal papers.
Therefor, Samuel Adams
organized the secret Sons
of Liberty organization in
order to protests against
the Stamp Act.
Taxatation Without
Representation and
Declaratory Act

American colonists did
want to pay taxes to
England because they
had no representation in
the English Parliament.
Parliament and the King
repealed the Stamp Act
in March, 1766, but
replaced it the
Declaratory Act. Which
gave the British
government exclusive
power to pass laws for
governing the colonies.
Boston Massacre
The confrontation in
Boston on March 5th,
1770, became
known as the Boston
Massacre.

It Bengan when a large
group of locals started
taunting to British soldiers
with snowballs, stones.
Several British soldiers
came to the rescue of
the soldiers being taunted
and open fired on the
crowd. It was the first
fatality from bullet
wounds by Killing five
people.
Colonists, were very
agitated with the
increased taxes put on
them by the British
government, as well as
the increased presence
of British troops in town.
Tensions between the
colonists and the British
troops built to a point that
led to that confrontation.
Samuel Adams:
“Committee of Corrrespondence”
In 1772, Samuel Adams
called for a meeting to
select a “Committee Of
Correspondence”. In

order to state the rights of
the colonists.
Committees were set up
virtually in all the other
colonies, growing a base
of an effective
revolutionary
organizations.
The Boston “Tea Party”
On the night of
December 16, 1773,
Samuel Adams and the
Sons of Liberty boarded
three ships in the Boston
harbor and threw 342
chests of tea overboard.

It was an act of protest by
American colonists
against Britain.
Britain realized it could
make more money of
tea trade by imposing
taxes to the American
colonies.
Battle Of Lexington
and Concord
On the night of April 18,
1775, hundreds of British
troops marched from
Boston to Concord in
order to arrest the rebels
leaders and seize stored
arms.
The colonists began
mobilizing to intercept
them.
In April 19, 1775, a

started off the fighting.
Franco-American
Alliance
Benjamin
Franklin
was sent to Paris
in orde to
negotiate and
secure a formal alliance
and treaty with France.
France Began
Providing aid
to the colonies
in May,1776.
It was sent 14 Ships with
war supplies to America.

Treaty Of Amity
and Commerce
On February 6, 1778, The
colonies and France
signed it. It was
recognized
the United
States as an
independen
t nation and
encourage
d trade between France
and the America.
Treaty Of
Alliance
Neither
country
would lay
down its
arms until
the colonies won their
Independence, neither
would conclude peace
without the consent of
the other.

America and
France went to
war
In June 1778, British Ships
fired on French vessels
and they went on war.
Spain Entered
the Conflict.
Spain was hoping to
reacquire territories taken
by Britain and allied to
France.
Britain
Declared War
on the Dutch
Because Dutch
continued to trade with
the Americans.
