    Zest Airways or usually known as ZestAir, had come a long way from the formation of itsroots in September of 1995. Started as Asian Spirit, this was first established by Antonio Turalba,

    mmanuel !"ate, Archibald #o, and other professionals who comprised the Airline mployees$ooperati%e &A $', the first local cooperati%e in the airline industry of the #hilippines. (t has

    been one of the first airlines to break the #hilippine Airlines) monopoly after #resident *amoshas appro%ed the +ecuti%e !rder which liberali ed the airline industry of the country. (n 199-,its operations started ha%ing two secondhand ash / aircrafts with two flights between 0anilaand 0alay e%eryday. (t has then e+panded and made new routes to other places for thema+imi ation of its utilities. Asian Spirit primarily focuses on tourist destinations and leasttra%eled routes in the country especially to the secondary and tertiary airports where most airlinecompanies do not operate. (t has been the first to ha%e a direct flight to oracay. (n 199/, theA $ was made into a corporation and changed its name to Asian Spirit (nc. y 2334, it has

    become the fourth flag carrier of the country after #hilippine Airlines, $ebu #acific, and Air #hilippines. The Securities and +change $ommission then appro%ed Asian Spirit)s registrationin 2335.

    The Asian Spirit had been successful in their ob ecti%e of de%eloping their airline ser%icesto secondary and tertiary routes in the country. 6owe%er, they suffered financial problems when

    bigger airline companies also pro%ided their ser%ices in the routes they ha%e de%eloped. That)swhy during the 0arch of 2337, Asian Spirit has been bought for 1 billion pesos by Amy6oldings &now 0a y)s $apital (nc.' which is a part of the 8ao roup of $ompanies. Alfredo8ao, the chairman of the 8ao roup of $ompanies had in mind to merge with the South astAsian Airlines &S A(*' and is e+pected to ac:uire -3; of the S A(*)s stock but the merger talk failed. Thus, on September of 2337, the 8ao roup of $ompanies decided to rebrand AsianSpirit. This has been the birth of Zest Airways. The operations of the company ha%e not beenmuch successful. ess than ayear after the strategic alliance, the two companies ha%e been rebranded as the AirAsia Zest.
