DEFINITION OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY

Photogrammetry is the art and science of obtaining reliable information about the properties of surfaces and objects without physical contact with the objects, and of measuring and considering this information.

Digital photogrammetry, which is just beginning to be a presence in the photogrammetric industry.

At the end of 19thcentury France & Austrian people used balloons to take photos from air and produced air photo maps. The geometry of maps

were distorted.

Tilt, irregular exposure, unstable platform

BRIEF HISTORY ON PHOTOGRAMMETRY

1480: The origin of photogrammetry goes back as far as 1480 when Leonardo da Vinci developed the concept of perspective and projective geometry.

1625: French mathematician Desargues defines projective geometry generalizing the use of vanishing points.

1840: The first use of photogrammetry was by the French geodesist Arago using a process called Daguerreotype.

1849: Frenchman Laussedat referred to as the “father of photogrammetry” was the first person to use terrestrial photographs for topographic map compilation.
