The President’s Death

• Shot at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, NY

• Shot on September 6, 1901 by Leon Frank Czolgosz

• Fired at twice– First bullet grazed his shoulder– Second bullet went through his stomach, colon, and

kidney, and finally lodged in the muscles of his back

• Doctors could not locate the second bullet so they decided to leave it, for fear that they would do more harm than good trying to locate it

The President’s Death

• Stayed in Buffalo to recover, was there for over a week– Milburn House

• Eight days after being shot, he began to go into shock

• Died of gangrene surrounding his wounds

• Died at 2:15 a.m. on September 14, 1901
