Coloring at home is convenient, and it allows you to make informed decisions about what you’re putting on your head (and absorbing through your scalp). For stunning results, follow these simple steps.

Hair4 Hints for At-Home

ColorStart with dirty hair. The natural oils help protect your scalp during the coloring process, and hair should be dry, not wet or damp, to begin.

Get it together. Before you open the box, gather all the supplies you need, including a comb, a couple of old towels and an old shirt.

Protect the perimeter. Apply a layer of lotion or Waxelene around your hairline to keep color off your skin.

Start with the roots. If you’re coloring for the first time, massage or comb mixture down to the ends. If this is a touch-up, allow the roots to process before applying to the rest of your hair (if desired).
